Substation Physical DesignerJob Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Physical Designer in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Augusta office located in Hallowell, Maine. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).Roles and ResponsibilitiesThe position includes working within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electrical utility substation design and understanding and adhering to client standards.Perform the detailed Physical design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations. Typical designs include but are not limited to:One-line diagramsPhysical layoutsSubstation equipment selectionSubstation general arrangement plans, sections, and elevationsControl building design and detailsCable and conduit plans and detailsGround grid design and detailsLightning protection design and detailsYard lighting design and detailsMaterial listsAC and DC systems calculations and sizing

Work with engineers to develop drawing packagesCoordinate designs with other disciplines such as Substation Protection & Control, Structural, and CivilParticipate in quality assurance and quality control programsContribute to engineering project scheduling and budget management

Required Education/ExperienceAbility to function as a Substation Physical Designer in our Augusta office located in Hallowell, Maine.Associate's degree or equivalent technical educationExperience with AutoCAD or MicroStation; experience with both is preferredUnderstanding of electric utility substation designElectrical and mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detailGood command of the Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel and Word.The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnelCandidate must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/ExperienceThree (3) or more years of experience in electric utility substation design is preferredFamiliarity with Raster Design and/or Bentley DescartesAbility to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, client examples, vendor drawings, and such.Ability to select materials based on technical requirements
