at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a junior specialist. The Skrajna Research Group studies histone proteins and their roles in maintaining chromatin structure and functions in human health and disease. Under the direction of Professor Aleksandra Skrajna, the junior specialist will use molecular cloning, biochemical, biophysical and structural biology techniques to interrogate how nuclear proteins interact with and function on the repeating unit of chromatin – the nucleosome.Duties will also include assisting with everyday operations of the research lab, including but not limited to ordering and stocking supplies; maintaining laboratory stock reagents; and training undergraduate researchers. In addition, the junior specialist will participate directly in ongoing research projects, working in collaboration with PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows.Applicants with research experience in molecular biological techniques for cloning and site-directed mutagenesis; designing and executing experiments in the context of a supervised project; recombinant protein expression and purification; using common laboratory equipment (autoclaves, incubators/shakers, hoods, etc.); and knowledge of general laboratory safety awareness are strongly encouraged to apply.The hiring unit will not sponsor employment-eligible immigration statuses for this position.
