General Responsibilities:

Provide technology support for all school-basedadministrative/instructional computer activities.

Essential Duties:(This list is intended solely as an illustration of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific dutiesdoes not exclude their addition if they are similar to or a logical extension of the position.)

Technical Support• Provides technical support for the school building(s) assigned including:o Provides installation, maintenance, service, and repair of computerequipment.o Troubleshoots computer hardware, software, and peripheral systemproblems.o Coordinates with support vendors for repair and replacement services offaulty/obsolete computer equipment and components.o Sets up, installs, and tests new computer hardware and softwareapplications.o Designs, implements, and reviews preventative maintenance programs.o Responds to service requests and provides customer support in-personand/or remotely via telephone, email, or other communication methods.o Sets up, installs, and supports computer-based technologies utilized forstudent assessment and testing.o Interacts with Information Technology staff to install, troubleshoot, repair,and provide reliable network infrastructure and services.o Assist Information Technology staff in providing Active Directory accountsand email, monitors network-based services such as home folders andapplications.o Supports Instructional Technology Training Specialist assigned to thebuilding(s) in providing professional development and training to staff.o Develops understanding of staff training requirements.o Prepares written documentation to assist staff with technology use.

Local School Affiliation• Attends all local school faculty meetings and makes oneself available to attenddepartment meetings.• Attends all technology committee meetings for the school building(s) assigned.• Researches and recommends upgrades, replacements, and new purchases ofcomputer technology for computer workstations, laptops, mobile devices, mobilelabs, printers, servers, interactive presentation systems, etc.

Administrative Responsibilities• Develops and implements technology policies and procedures as defined in theMCPS School Board Regulations and Policies.• Tracks all work in the IT ticketing system.• Maintains a current inventory of all technology equipment.• Assists with information management in the administrative areas of the school.• Communicates changes in network design services with ITS Staff.

Staff Development• Communicates training needs of local building staff to the InstructionalTechnology Training Specialists.• Provides staff with technical knowledge on how to perform basic tasks listedunder the Virginia Department of Education Technology Standards forInstructional Personnel as listed in the MCPS Technology Plan.• Provides assistance to laboratory teachers learning to manage users andnetwork resources effectively.• Performs other duties as requested.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• Working knowledge of all installed instructional and administrative software.• Strong written and verbal communication skills.• Effective interpersonal skills for working with teachers, administration, andstudents.• Knowledge and experience working with Windows and Apple platforms, andexperience in the administration of standalone and networked hardware,software, and cabling.• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking; including network addressing, switching,routing, DHCP, and 802.11 wireless networks.• Serve as role model.• Ability to work flexible hours, as required to support systems and applications.

Requisite Education and Experience:• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree preferredin Computer Science or a related field.• Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting computer hardware andapplications.

Technology Support Specialist 3• Industry-standard certifications preferred.• Must possess a valid motor vehicle license with a good driving record.

Physical Requirements:Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate andinteract with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone andpersonal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feelobjects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items ofoffice related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator,copier, and fax machine. Some significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching,reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motionsrequired.
