Inspects lift trucks and equipment to determine the extent of repairs.Performs needed repairs on gasoline, diesel, and propane engines with minimal instruction.Inspects, adjusts, and repairs components as needed.Repairs cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems using diagnostic tools.Performs preventative maintenance as need to improve condition and performance of the fleet.Operates equipment to troubleshoot and test equipment as needed.Maintains records of all maintenance performed.Assists parts department in shipping and receiving of motor freight.Takes service calls and provides assistance when Service Manager is unavailable.Cleans and maintains garage area as needed.Other related duties as required.

Some vocational or formal schooling in hydraulics and diesel engine repair.Three years on the job experience in diesel mechanics and hydraulicsSchooling in these fields could substitute for some of the job experience.Basic computer skills required.Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and other technical material.While it is not a requirement that the Shop Mechanic pass the AWSD14 Welding Test, the incumbent is required to pass the tacker testThe Shop Mechanic is encouraged to practice and improve welding skills to pass the AWSD14 Welding Test in order to be considered for future promotions.This job requires stooping, bending, climbing, and capability of lifting up to 50 pounds.
