President & CEOSUMMARYThe VP of Development & Communications works with the Chief Executive Officer and Board to plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress toward goals. The Director of Development supports the Chief Executive Officer in positioning the board to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, United Way, government agencies and others and is responsible for providing leadership and direction to staff, as needed, in their role of supporting the resource development and marketing efforts with the following objectives as fundamental to role success:Raise money to support the organization’s mission and meet revenue goals to establish and fulfill fundraising objectives.Work closely with staff, volunteers and Board members to identify and solicit prospects.Conceive, plan and oversee marketing and public relations strategies.Help promote the organization’s brand to existing and prospective donors and the community at-large.Manage the overall resource development strategy and action plan.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following (additional duties may be assigned)Strategic PlanningLead the planning and implementation of the strategic plan regarding activities relating to donor solicitations and other Club fundraising efforts
Oversee the planning and implementation of overall development goals, strategies, and activities relating to the identification, research, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects and donors
Resource DevelopmentConceive, plan and execute fundraising strategies that achieve the Board-approved Resource Development budgetGenerate fundraising income through major gifts from individual donors making gifts of $1,000 and above
Manage all aspects of the It Just Takes One – Flooring Campaign ($1,000+), with a goal of retaining existing donors while recruiting new donorsManage all aspects of the It Just Takes One – Family (Board) Campaign
Evaluate and determine giving trends of individual donors and identify those with the potential to upgrade to Flooring level or to make a planned gift
Develop, implement and manage a planned giving programIdentify new prospects and work with other staff and Board members to cultivate and solicit new donors and explore new partnerships and special eventsWork closely with key staff, volunteers and Board members to educate and engage them in donor solicitations and the entire fundraising processServe as the lead for Metro United Way speaking engagements, with support from Resource Development staff, other staff and Board membersConduct research on donors and prospects as neededParticipate in donor stewardship and cultivation activities
Resource ManagementDevelop and manage Resource Development budget (fundraising, marketing and public relations)Monitor fundraising efforts and progress towards goalsMarketing/Public RelationsOversee the development and implementation of a marketing and public relations plan designed to increase visibility of Club programs, services, and activitiesMaintain good public relations with donors, prospects and the community at-largeDevelop collaborative partnerships with donors, prospects, volunteers, media contacts, consultants, vendors, etc.Work to enhance the organization’s public image and positioning and foster positive external relationsAdministration/OtherManage and/or participate in relevant committees and sub-committees of the Board of DirectorsPerform additional duties as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESManage and oversee Resource Development staffAssist with managing and overseeing internsSPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREDBachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a Master’s degree preferred in marketing/business or a related fieldA minimum of 5 years of experience in major gift fundraising, communications or public relations; a minimum of two years at Executive/Senior Mgt level preferredExperience in major gifts and planned giving strategy requiredCFRE certification preferredSupervision in a fundraising assignment required.Experience working in a not-for-profit organization preferredConsiderable knowledge of fundraising techniques and sources of funding for not-for-profit agenciesOutstanding communication skills, both oral and writtenOrganizational skills and the ability to meet deadlinesAbility to manage sensitive and confidential information with integrityProficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with fundraising and/or donor management software, i.e. Bloomerang, E-Tapestry, Raisers EdgeMust be available for local, state, and national travel as requiredWORK ENVIRONMENTGood working conditions.
