The Division of Genetic, Genomic, and Metabolic Disorders at Childrens Hospital of Michigan and Central Michigan University have an immediate opening for an additional full time MD/DO Biochemical Geneticist.
Opportunity Highlights
The candidate will work with a highly experienced board certified Clinical Geneticist, a team of five advanced practice providers and a dedicated staff including six genetic counselors, two genetic counselor assistants, three registered nurses, one dietician, and ancillary support staff to support and build a biochemical genetics services in the Detroit Metropolitan area.
The primary responsibilities will include seeing patients with inborn errors of metabolism and lysosomal storage disorders. In this position, the candidate will have the flexibility to shape their clinical and research responsibilities and consider leadership roles according to their interests, experience, and expertise. Our division has an important role as one of the State of Michigans designated coordinating and referral centers for infants with a suspected metabolic disorder with a team that has provided these services for nearly 20 years. We are seeking to expand these services. Additional responsibilities include supporting the genetics inpatient consultation service as well as the supervision and teaching of medical students, genetic counseling students, and pediatric residents.
About the Division
In addition to providing diagnostic evaluations for individuals suspected of having a genetic condition and genetic counseling services for those identified with genetic conditions, there are numerous other programs operated by the Division. It is home to one of the few Lysosomal Storage Disease Clinics and Pediatric Enzyme Replacement Therapy programs in Michigan; has staff who are highly experienced in the management of inborn errors of metabolism; a dedicated Pediatric Cancer Genetics Clinic; and a Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Clinic. We work closely with the Wayne State University Genetic Counseling Graduate Program. An on-site Cytogenetic / Molecular laboratory directed by board-certified laboratory geneticists complement the clinical service.
Candidate Requirements
- Must have a MD or DO degree
- BE/BC in Clinical or Medical Biochemical Genetics and Clinical Genetics
- BE/BC in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine is also desirable
- Eligible to obtain licensure in the State of Michigan
