DonorsChoose engages the public in public schools by giving people a simple, accountable, and personal way to address educational inequity. In this clip, board member Stephen Colbert tells our story.
To date, teachers at 83% of all the public schools in America have posted classroom project requests on our site. Projects range from paper and markers for a poetry writing unit to violins for a school recital. More than 4 million “citizen philanthropists” have supported such projects, channeling books, field trips, technology, and other resources to more than 40 million students nationwide. In all, we’ve generated $1 billion for learning experiences designed by our country’s most dedicated public school teachers.
GOOD Magazine highlighted us as one of 30 Places We Want to Work, while Fast Company named DonorsChoose.org one of the 50 Most Innovative Companies in the World—the first time a charity has made this list. Through its dedicated team and culture, DonorsChoose earned recognition as the #1 "Best Nonprofit to Work For" by the Nonprofit Times.
About the People & Talent Team
The People team oversees hiring and recruitment processes that prioritize equity, inclusion, and a positive candidate experience. We do this by working closely with hiring managers and leaders across the organization to clearly define job descriptions, train interviewers to recognize and combat implicit biases in the hiring process, and setting aggressive goals to ensure representation of historically underrepresented candidates in every search. About the Role
The Recruiter will help to oversee hiring processes across senior level, specialized, and technical roles across the organization and will help to maintain a positive hiring experience for candidates, hiring managers, and interviewers alike.
In this role you will:

You’ll guide candidates through the process, from reviewing applications to coordinating interviews and answering their questions about work and culture at DonorsChoose.
- Serve as an advocate for candidates throughout the hiring practice, from providing helpful information to prepare candidates for their interviews to collecting their feedback to share with hiring managers.
- Take ownership of marketing open roles on job boards, affinity-based communities, and social media platforms.
- Research new and creative ways to reach candidates and engage them with the DonorsChoose mission.
- Execute on projects and initiatives to strengthen the DonorsChoose employer brand.
- Organize and maintain DonorsChoose’s database of prospective candidates in Greenhouse, our Applicant Tracking System (ATS)
- Learn about each of the teams at DonorsChoose and build relationships with hiring managers to help identify the right candidates for openings across the organization
- Monitor hiring reports, such as quality by candidate source, share trends with the People & Talent team, and make data-based recommendations for marketing open roles
Qualifications
This role may be perfect for you if:
- You have at least 2 years of experience in recruitment or talent acquisition and have deep familiarity with LinkedIn Recruiter.
- You are very organized and detail oriented. You can easily keep track of the nuances of different projects and can quickly switch gears.
- You care deeply about racial equity and understand how systemic racism intersects with hiring.
- You are a relationship builder, and are naturally inclined to learn about the work your colleagues do.
- You are tech-savvy and love learning new systems quickly.
You’ll get bonus points if:
- You have experience using an ATS and other recruitment software (we use Greenhouse and Gem).
- You have technical recruiting experience.
- You have experience with interview coordination and scheduling.
