Job Description / Essential Elements:
JOB SUMMARYUnder general supervision of the Superintendent or designee, operates a school bus over designated routes for the purpose of transporting students of Escalon Unified School District; performs related work as required.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITIONMay include, but not limited to:1. Drive a school bus daily over designated routes in accordance withassigned time schedules;2. Escorts children across streets or roadways, stopping traffic asnecessary;3. Transports students and teachers on field trips to various locationsmaking departure and arrival times as scheduled;4. Service buses with gasoline, diesel fuel and oil;5. Check vehicles daily to maintain safe operating condition;6. Cleans windshields and headlights;7. Keep vehicles clean and neat;8. Advises on repairs needed;9. Attend scheduled meetings and safety programs;10. Maintain good order among students on the buses and encourages samewhile students are waiting at the bus stops, following District policiesregarding disciplining of children and contact with parents and others;11. Report incidents which affect the safety of pupils; may make minorrepairs to vehicles or performs, as directed;12. Other duties consistent with the general areas of responsibilitysurrounding the job description.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge and Application of:District policies and procedures as they apply; Safe Driving Practices; Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in transporting school children.
Ability to:•Work confidentially•See for purposes of reading printed matter and observing students•Hear and understand speech at normal levels•Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normalconversation•Perform moderate physical exertion•Lift 50 pounds•Carry 25 pounds•Reach in all directions (physically)•Operate a school bus and other transportation vehicle in a safe and propermanner•Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with othersincluding maintaining order on the school bus•Meet schedules and deadlines•Keep and maintain records•Read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures•Work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations•Stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time
Education / Experience:High School Diploma or GED requiredOne (1) year of general driving experience or six (6) months experience as a bus driver.
Conditions of Employment:First Aid Certificate requiredPossession of a valid School Bus Driver's Certificate issued through examination by the California Highway Patrol. In order to obtain the Certificate, a candidate must first possess an appropriate California operator's license (Class 2), have passed a physical examination, been fingerprinted, and have fulfilled all other requirements, including a first aid and actual driving test, administered by the California Highway Patrol.
Salary Level: 46 - Classified Salary Schedule

8 hours a day / 12-month employee6:15 am - 8:30 am (Drive Bus),1:45 pm - 4:30 pm (Drive Bus), and4:30 pm - 7:30 pm (Custodial at Van Allen)Non-school day work hours, 6 am - 2:30 pmRoute times and custodial hours may vary.
