Description:

The School Bus Driver transports children to and from school, field trips, athletic events, etc. in a safe and efficient manner.

Qualifications

:High School Diploma or equivalent is requiredValid Arizona Driver's LicenseValid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Airbrake and Passenger EndorsementState School Bus Driver's CertificationMinimum age requirement of 21 yearsValid Fingerprint Clearance CardMust secure CPR and First Aid Certificate within 30 days of hireMust be able to successfully pass drug tests as determined by Arizona Department of TransportationKnowledge of state and local laws, regulations and policies regarding school bus operations and transporting children including the transportation of Special Education studentsAbility to maintain student discipline and safely transport all studentsMust be able to safely and correctly drive a routine school bus route while adhering to time constraintKnowledge of the English language including reading, writing and oral communicationStrong communication and interpersonal skills when working/dealing with students, parents and staffMust have strong problem-solving and decision-making skillsAbility to comprehend and perform functions from written and verbal instructionsMust be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and lift and/or move at least 75-100 poundsMust be available for extra duty assignments such as field and activity trips as requiredMust be an energetic, highly ethical and possess good emotional and physical healthPrior school bus driving experience is desiredBilingual is desiredAlternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board or the Superintendent may deem appropriate

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

:

Obey all traffic laws and observe all mandatory safety regulations for school busesAssist students as they enter and exit the busAssure seat belts and/or safety restraints for wheelchairs are properly in placeMaintain discipline and supervision while transporting only authorized studentsreport undisciplined students to the proper authoritydischarge students only at authorized stopsKeep assigned bus clean and in proper working and safety conditionInspect the bus before each operation for mechanical defects, notifying the proper authority of any mechanical failureInform students about safety requirementsSupervise bus assistant to ensure highest safety standardsExercise responsible leadership during school tripsLoad and unload food lunch equipmentConduct emergency bus evacuation drills with students at individual schoolsPerform vehicle pre- and post- trip inspections, fueling and minor vehicle maintenance to assure student/public safety and to protect District assetsDrive school bus on assigned daily routes and on field tripsReport unruly student activities, loitering and vandalism, safety, sanitary and fire hazards to the Transportation DirectorClean, wash and fuel District buses, vehicles and other equipmentFile school bus citations for stop-arm violations with Department of Public SafetyPerform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspectionsMaintain mileage records and daily logsReview assigned bus routes; notifies office of inconsistencies or needed changesInform mechanic(s) of needed repairs and files proper work ordersTransport students on field trips as assignedDocument and report discipline problems and write bus conduct reportsDocument and maintain records of problems or unusual situations and inform transportation director when necessaryParticipate in district sponsored professional development workshops/inservices, attend on-going training classes as directed, and read professional publications for continued professional developmentMaintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel and student and family records and/or informationSupport and follow the rules, regulations and policies set by the School Board and the DistrictPerform all other duties as assigned by the Governing School Board, the Director of Transportation or his/her designeeLength of Employment
