Position Summary:
Operate University vehicles to provide safe transportation of faculty, staff, students and guests to on and off campus locations as assigned.
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma plus two years commercial, professional driving experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid CDL Passenger endorsement driver’s license along with a good driving record, and must be insurable.
Experience in operating a bus in the public transportation industry is preferred.
Must be drug free and pass random drug tests as required by the Department of Transportation
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
Ability to safely operate multi passenger vehicle in strict compliance with State regulations while maintaining professional courtesy with all passengers.
Ability to write detailed and accurate reports.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and make logical decisions.
Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
Ability to operate equipment safely, such as vehicle wheelchair lift and two-way radios. Operate a wheelchair lift, load and unload passengers on and off the bus. Assure seatbelts and securing devices are fastened when positioning wheelchairs in the bus.
Possess strong interpersonal skills, which include courtesy, politeness, and the ability to successfully interact with different cultures and personalities in a professional and tactful manner.
Ability to gather data, i.e. ridership counts, compile information and prepare reports.
Basic knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Identification Plaques.
Ability to work occasionally on weekends, day, and night shifts, some overnight trips and occasional overtime.
Attends meetings, programs and in-service training as assigned.
Required to complete First Aid, CPR , AED , Blood borne Pathogen, and other courses required by the University.
Maintain current required licenses and endorsements.
Ability to send and receive electronic communications, i.e. Email
Essential Functions:
Operate University vehicles to provide safe transportation of faculty, staff, students and guests to on and off campus locations as assigned.
Perform vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting any defects.
Build rapport with students and employees
Must respect all passengers.
Ability to be available to work on weekends, early mornings, and nights.
Maintain a clean and neat vehicle. Assures maintenance of bus in a safe and clean operating condition; reporting needed mechanical repairs, sweeping the interior of the bus, washing the windows, service the bus with gas and oil, follows established security procedures. Inspects the condition of the bus daily and reports all damage.
Report, within 24 hours, when Driver’s license status has been affected by suspension, revocation, cancellation, lost privilege or disqualification. Must notify superior of any conviction of any type of Motor Vehicle State or local law relating to vehicle control as occurred. Also, report any parking violations issued involving a University Vehicle while in the driver’s control.
Complete Found Property reports for any items left in vehicle.
Complete rider logs for all persons transported and uses two-way-radio to communicate with the security office at the Owings Mills Campus.
Assist Campus Security Officers by communicating via handheld radio suspicious or criminal activity on observed on or near campus.
May be asked to work at Special events; i.e. athletic games, theatre events, commencements etc., to assist security officers with traffic and crowd control/management while under the direction of security personnel and notifying security of any circumstance needing Campus security consideration.
Must report any circumstance that would affect compromise or impair the ability to perform the essential functions of this position.
