Job Description

Visa is seeking a proactive product and commercial lawyer to join its growing legal team that supports Visa’s Global Product, IP and Services organizations to serve as product and commercial attorney supporting Visa’s cloud-native issuer processing and core banking platform. The position will report to a Senior Managing Counsel, Visa Legal - Global Products, IP and Services.

The attorney will work closely with other experienced Visa lawyers and compliance professionals, and regularly engage directly with business clients.

Applicants must be skilled at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and challenging, but highly rewarding, environment, have good judgment and strong analytical, client counseling, and negotiation skills, be self-motivated, and, most importantly, be an optimistic, curious, and collaborative team player.

Visa Is Looking For Someone Who Will

Work closely with business teams to understand and achieve key business objectives and help them develop compelling product and service offeringsDraft, negotiate, and drive to completion complex commercial agreements that achieve business objectives, and continue to support those business relationships once consummatedProvide sophisticated and creative counseling and advice to business teams regarding product development, deployment, and associated commercial and contracting considerationsLead review of product related marketing materials, public relations and corporate communicationsManage regulatory support and evaluation of how shifts in regulatory landscapes may impact Visa and its partnersWork closely with Visa’s regional legal and business teams globally, and assist these teams in resolving regional and local issues, including to achieve consistency on approaches and issues by Visa worldwideProvide advice and counsel to business line and management on transactional legal matters and proposed corporate actions and projectsReview externally facing documentation for compliance with securities laws, disclosure policies, data use policies and requirements, competition law issues, etc.Where required, coordinate and supervise outside counsel for timeliness, cost-effectiveness, and excellence of service and work product

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

5 years of post-JD work experience (or international equivalent)Valid license to practice in the state where the job is located or the ability to become state registered in-house counsel in good standing

Preferred Qualifications

7+ years of post-JD work experience (or international equivalent)Strong academic credentials, including a J.D. degree (or international equivalent)Prior experience in at least one of the following areas: payments (and related credit and debit processing), financial services, technology or fintech industriesDemonstrated ability to drive execution in a team environment, integrating legal advice and business knowledge while providing balanced advice regarding risks and benefitsMust be able to work independently and collaboratively as needed, and engage directly with business clients at all levelsMust be a practical and creative problem-solver with strong business acumen and work ethicMust be able to manage and drive the legal and regulatory aspects of complex business initiatives, both in the U.S. and internationallyTransactional background (software as a service, corporate, commercial arrangements) with significant experience drafting and negotiating a wide array of commercial agreementsKnowledge across multiple legal disciplines including regulatory, privacy, human resources, intellectual property, marketing and competition lawsDeveloped business acumen, with ability to understand the company's business interests and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in various settingsMust be able to multitask, with strong organizational and prioritization skills, and manage a significant workload and a number of clients with minimal supervisionExperience in a global company would be a plus

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 165,400.00 to 215,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
