This is a unique opportunity for a Data Scientist with extensive experience in data analytics and machine learning. The Data Scientist will focus on creating and implementing machine learning models that are based on big data, specifically designed to address challenges in the drilling and completion operations. This position reports directly to the Lead Data Scientist.Responsibilities:The Data Scientist will use data and their analytical ability to build big data algorithms to interpret enriched data sources automatically, extract insights from text data, manage large amounts of data, merge data from varied data sources, ensure consistency of datasets, and create visualizations to aid in understanding data.Design and implement modern data pipelines/ETL to extract, clean, and process data in batches and real-time from different data sources.Utilize statistical analysis, pattern recognition, and machine learning techniques, combined with domain expertise and specialized models, to address engineering challenges in areas such as drilling, completion, and fracturing operations.Build algorithms to present and communicate data insights/findings.This role will require working on multiple projects simultaneously in different kinds of petroleum operations.Write project reports and give project status/results presentations to engineering/management.Assumes and performs other duties and/or responsibilities as requested.Conduct all business activities in agreement with CNPC USA core values.Performs other tasks and/or duties as assigned.Key Skills:Strong Programming skills utilized in the data science domain (e.g., Python, R, C++, or similar) is required.Experience in petroleum engineering (e.g., hydraulic fracturing and drilling engineering) is required.Knowledge or experience with data virtualization tools is required.Excellent communication skills and experience working in a collaborative environment are required.Broad knowledge of wells, development function, and technology related systems, including drilling, completion, and fracturing operations.Knowledge of numerical methods for linear algebra and optimization is an advantage.Experience in technical software development is an advantage.Experience working in Linux and in a High-Performance Computing environment is an advantage.Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision.Qualifications:With a Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Science, or Engineering with significant experience in data science focused on problem solution over algorithm development, no work experience is required.With a Bachelor's or Master's in Statistics, Computer Science, Science, or a related engineering field, a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience is required.Strong petroleum, computer, and data science background.Strong experience in Research and Development.Strong presentation skills.Ability to program Python, VBA, or equivalent language.Ability to develop Spotfire or Power BI dashboards.Understanding of relational and non-relational databases, both on-premises and cloud-basedFamiliarity with machine-learning concepts.Legally authorized to work in the United States of AmericaWork EnvironmentThis job operates in an office environment. Secondary responsibilities of the role may require the use of standard lab equipment such as a tensile testing frame.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential job functions successfully.Performing duties of this job is regularly required to stand and walk; reach and pull with hands and arms, and lift up to 50 lbs. The vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. This job also requires the ability to read and understand ideas in writing as well as oral and written communication.Travel:This position may require international and domestic travel.
