Summary of Functions

The incumbent performs mental health counseling, assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, follow-up and monitoring of clients who are being treated for mental health issues. Applicant must have extensive knowledge of mental health disorders, therapeutic interventions, knowledge of working with families, adolescents and children and demonstrate cultural competence and be highly skilled in best practice and evidence-based counseling techniques.

This position reports to Mental Health Clinical Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To provide outpatient mental health counseling services to Tribal Members, their families, and the community. The mental health counselor will work collaboratively with other Tribal Community service programs and other regional agencies to ensure the coordination of treatment services. Coordinate and provide the community with training and prevention activities designed to educate the community on mental health issues. Education and skills in conducting individual, group, and family counseling sessions Establish and facilitate recovery and support groups as deemed necessary by the Mental Health Clinical Manager. Some groups would include but not be limited to; problem gambling, domestic violence, grief, gender specific groups and/or Talking Circles. Maintain client records, program records and reporting in accordance with Tribal, Indian Health Services, the Federal government, and Washington State professional standards. As a team member, the mental health counselor will work collaboratively with staff, colleagues, the Tribal and local court systems, and all other agencies that provide services to the Kalispel Community, as well as the community at large. Ability to utilize standardized assessment tools and screenings to assess suicidal ideation and homicidal ideation Training and ability to conduct mental health assessments and screenings to properly diagnose individuals Adhere to all applicable tribal, federal, or state privacy laws and regulations, including but not limited HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2. Attend training as necessary to maintain certification. Additional duties as assigned Education

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related field required. Meet certification requirements to complete suicidal and homicidal screenings, assessments, and interventions Experience

Licensed Social worker, mental health profession or other with 2 years’ post graduate experience with demonstrated individual or family counseling experience. Must have experience working within systems and collaborating with other professionals. Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 20 pounds. This position requires significant amounts of standing or walking. Significant portions of the job require extended sedentary periods; constant work with computers, including extended periods of keyboarding; and repetitive motion of hands and wrists. Work Environment

This position is performed primarily in an office environment. This position requires local travel. This position requires very little out of town travel. This position requires the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. This position requires some amounts of work to be performed outside general business hours. On-call status may be necessary at times.

GENERAL

Services that the mental health counselor will incorporate within the Camas Path Behavioral Health program will include but are not limited to: outreach, intervention, mental health assessments, screens, evaluations, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, case management, aftercare services, advocacy, and information and referral.
