DescriptionSFCM’s Pre-College is an immersive program that instills the value of music in youth 18 and under, providing an artistic framework and tailored instruction for the next generation of musicians. Our curriculum integrates private lessons with musicianship courses, small and large ensemble experiences, master classes, jury assessments, and performance opportunities, making music a core part of their lives.The Pre-College is seeking to hire faculty to teach Jazz Studies with students on the following instruments:DrumsBassRequirementsTeach individual lessons on a weekly basis following the Pre-College academic calendarDevelop lessons and a long-range teaching plan based on the individual needs of each studentRepresent the Pre-College locally and nationally; Actively recruit students to maintain studio enrollmentCoordinate lesson schedules in consultation with the Pre-College OfficePrepare students for participation in division recitals, showcase concerts, juries, auditions, competitions, festivals, and other SFCM related performancesProvide routine assessment and feedbackAdjudicate juries and auditions as requested by Division DirectorWrite references and/or recommendations upon requestUnderstand and support the Pre-College curriculum and its related activitiesCommunicate in a timely manner with the Pre-College OfficeDevelop working relationships with Bay Area music educators and arts institutionsParticipate in faculty meetingsQualificationsDemonstrate excellent musicianship and artistry as an educatorA minimum of four (4) years professional experience working in the field of arts education required with a four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent recommendedA strong background and understanding of jazz pedagogy and repertoireCandidates with experience working in diverse communities encouraged to applyAbility to maintain strong working relationships with SFCM administrative staff and facultyDemonstrate strong leadership skills; maintain a good relationship with parents; demand a high standard of excellence while creating an encouraging, inspiring, and engaging experience for the studentsSuccessful completion of a criminal background check is required for the selected candidateHow to ApplyWe prefer to receive applications through our website.
