Director, Center for Sleep and Circadian Rhythms

Atrium Health, Winston Salem, North Carolina, United States, 27104

Overview

Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist (AHWFB) are seeking a national leader to direct and build an emerging Center for Sleep & Circadian Rhythms. This is a unique opportunity to join a thriving and rapidly growing medical school and academic health system in a beautiful, vibrant, diverse and affordable community.

Our goal is to establish an internationally recognized sleep and circadian clinical and translational research center that will be competitive for large center (P50) grants and clinical trials and will be a destination site for clinical treatment of sleep disorders, through the provision of outstanding care to the large number of patients who suffer from sleep disorders. We have most of the needed components to develop a world-class center for sleep and circadian rhythms research at AHWFB and the larger Atrium Health System, with internationally recognized experts in sleep and circadian biology and a large clinical sleep medicine practice. The singular missing piece is an academic leader to promote sleep research initiatives.

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s full-fledged sleep center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. It has eight adult and two pediatric sleep beds, and we have plans to expand the pediatric sleep beds. In Charlotte, Atrium Health offers the largest comprehensive sleep center in the Carolinas, with 14 sleep testing locations and 25 board certified sleep specialists seeing over 20,000 patient visits annually across the region.

With the proposed growth of Neuroscience, Alzheimer’s disease, Aging, and Psychiatry at Wake Forest School of Medicine, a hire of this magnitude will be transformative for sleep research, and more broadly for the research community overall.
