Job Description:
The Linux/Unix Systems Administrator will join our talented Enterprise Information Technology Services Division (EITS). The primary responsibilities include installing, upgrading, and patching operating systems;installing and configuring virtual servers; assisting with the configuration / maintenance of RAID / SAN / storage units; performing aspects of system security, including OS hardening and patch installation; Applicant must be able to work independently or in a group environment and writing documentation. This full-time position.
Excellent communication skills and proven team work / building are required for this position. The candidate must be able to integrate with a team of highly skilled Systems Administrators and other Information Technology staff.
Required Skills:
Provide Enterprise Linux/Unix systems administration support to maintain all systems in accordance with appropriate system requirements.
Experience with Virtualization technologies, installing/configuring VMware; creation, management, administration and maintenance of virtual servers and clients.
Knowledge of network configuration and security on ESX Host.
Investigate, provide analysis, and document assigned Configuration Change Requests (RFC's) in accordance with approved Configuration Management (CM) processes.
Provide for and ensure optimal technical operation, maintenance, and support of systems for robust and reliable performance.
Oversee administration, installation, maintenance, and proper licensing of systems, including installation of server operating systems, patches, and upgrades.
Install, configure, maintain, and periodically audit packages requested/required by the Project and update the system documentation accordingly.
Proactively look for updates to Vendor packages and communicate or recommend updates to the appropriate staff.
Ensure that all systems comply with security requirements.
Write and debug scripts and programs that enhance the utility of systems and provide effective user interface to other systems.
Provide and maintain current documentation of UNIX systems, server configurations, administrative tools, and procedures for implementation/adaptation of products and services. Assist staff with incorporating system modifications and upgrades into procedures and documentation.
Other Desired Skills:
Exceptional customer service orientation. Identify and understand client needs and ensure a result to customer's requests.
VMware certification desirable, but not required.
Knowledge of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) desirable.
Education/Experience: Minimum of a BS/BA (plus at least 2-5 years progressive experience, post degree work experience in the profession) or MS/MA) in the following areas of study-Computer Science, Computer Systems Administration, Electrical Engineering, within computer science emphasis.
A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of total experience in which at least 4 years must be specialized in administering AIX / Linux / Systems
