Gladstone Institutes is an independent, nonprofit life science research organization, located in the epicenter of biomedical and technological innovation in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are excited to be expanding our Finance team and are seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to serve a key role in the Finance Department.The Accounting Manager performs supervisory and management activities related to accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring financials are timely and accurate, implementing internal controls, and approving and posting journal entries. Work contributes to the overall organizational strategy and departmental operations.Duties include:Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing cycles and coordinate with other departments to ensure proper accounting for transactions and timeliness and accuracy of financial information.Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy, proper GAAP classification, and program coding.Manage the daily operations of the accounts payable/accounts receivable team, including reviewing vendor invoices and payments.Maintain vendor relationships by ensuring statement and invoicing discrepancies are resolved timely.Prepare complex accounting journal entries including allocations, accruals, reclassification, and recurring entries, and review journal entries prepared by team members.Ensure policies and procedures are being followed, identify any operational deficiencies, implement processes to address deficiencies, and establish controls around the new processes.Coordinates with external auditors, including responding to requests and assisting in the preparation of audit schedules.Assist with annual tax return preparation and 1099, 1098 and 1042 filings.May perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA strongly preferred.5-7 years of relevant experience, public accounting experience preferred.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization is required.Previous supervisory experience with a proven ability to effectively motivate and mentor employees.Strong technical accounting knowledge of GAAP.Proactive and highly organized with great time management and prioritization skills.Exceptional Excel skills.
