POSITION SUMMARY:
Efficiently and safely maintain a high level of care and cleanliness of school buildings and surrounding area
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification: High School diploma or G.E.D. (desired)Valid Texas Driver's License
Special Knowledge/Skills:Able to read, write, and speak EnglishBe in a good physical conditionPossess basic mechanical skillsGood oral and written communication skillsSound reasoning in the interpretation of responsibilities and in dealing with students, staff and the publicAble to follow instructions/directives of supervisors(s)Able to work irregular hours and to respond to after-hours emergency calls as neededAble to work independently, with or without supervision, with others, and as part of a team
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:prior experience in the operation of cleaning and custodial equipment
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:Good public relationsAble to make quick, sound decisions in the best interest of the schoolWilling to receive and utilize training, to daily perform routine custodial tasksPractice general safety, security, and custodial procedures at all timesComply with district policies and proceduresMaintain a good attendance/safety/driving recordOperate and maintain all types of custodial related mechanical equipmentResponsible for performing work in a neat, orderly and timely manner that ensures school buildings are clean and ready for the beginning of each school day/school yearAssemble furniture, install light bulbs/pencil sharpeners/dispensers, unstop commodes/urinals and other mechanical tasks that do not require the use of a drillAdapt to and be willing to work a flexible work schedule at any site, during any shift, and perform any cleaning assignment according to the needs of the districtAble to learn new techniques and adapt to repetitive cleaning tasks throughout the workdayPerform all other duties assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
Must be able to perform repetitive tasksStanding tolerance of up to 7 hoursSustained walking endurance of up to .25 milesContinued kneeling endurance up to 10 minutesManual dexterity and fine motor skillsRepetitive forward reachingRepetitive overhead reaching, sustained tolerance up to 3 minutesRepetitive forward bendingRepetitive stooping endurance up to 10 minuteAbility to climb stairsAbility to lift and carry 50 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
This job is performed 90% indoors, with the remaining 10% of job duties performed outdoors maintaining the surrounding grounds.Indoor duties are performed in a thermostatically controlled climate, and the responsibilities are subject to seasonal conditions.Noise levels are low and present no risk of hearing disorders.Exposure to vibration is moderate during the use of floor machines.Lighting indoors is provided by recessed overhead fluorescent fixtures with glare screen coverings.The walking surface indoors is a level concrete floor covered with linoleum tile in foyer areas, cafeteria, and restrooms. Tight knap carpet is installed in most reaching areas and office space with ample padding.The outdoor walking surface is natural (grave/rocks) and exposed concrete sidewalks. Safety shoes are not required; however, shoes with a non-skid sole must be worn.Exposure to fumes is moderate with the use of some cleaning chemicals, and the dissipation of fumes is controlled with the building ventilation system.Chemical hazards are moderate; however, rubber gloves, face shield, or other personal protective equipment are required while using chemicals.
