Who You AreWe are looking for a rockstar product lawyer who has a knack for creative problem solving and a desire to make an impact. You will be a founding member of the
Product Legal team and joining Verkada’s fast growing Legal team. This role reports into Verkada’s AGC for Product.
The ideal candidate will have experience advising product and engineering teams on legal issues arising throughout the product development lifecycle, especially those relating to regulatory compliance, marketing, and IP licensing . You will also have expertise in one or more of the following areas: (1) B2B marketing and advertising issues; (2) licensing and regulatory issues related to commercial alarm products and monitoring services; and/or (3) privacy and data protection issues in AI, biometrics, and facial recognition technologies. And of course, you enjoy doing exciting work and also know how to have fun in the process. We are an “in the office” company and this role is based in our headquarters in San Mateo, CA.
What You’ll Be Expected To Do
Be a legal go-to for the product, engineering, supply chain, support, and marketing teams, advising them on all legal aspects related to Verkada’s product offerings, including their development, marketing, sale, and compliance with applicable laws
Advise company leadership about legal issues involving Verkada’s product offerings, help design and implement compliance programs, and provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies across multiple jurisdictions
Uplevel our process for legal review of marketing materials and collaborate with and advise the marketing teams to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Uplevel our product launch process and protocols to ensure new product offerings are adequately protected by and compliant with applicable laws and regulations
Serve as a subject matter legal expert on product-related laws and regulations, including in relevant import/export and government procurement laws (e.g., NDAA/TAA/BAA)
Monitor new and emerging developments in applicable worldwide regulations and laws, and identify potential impacts on current and future Verkada product offerings
What You'll Need
J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school or equivalent and a member of at least one state bar association in good standing
6+ years of legal experience comprising a combination of regulatory, IP, product counseling, marketing, and general transactional work (preferably with at least 2 years of in house experience)
Experience advising multinational, complex fast-growing global companies, preferably with respect to both hardware and software product offerings
Experience developing and implementing compliance programs and policies for hardware and software products
Experience negotiating and drafting B2B software and hardware commercial contracts and license agreements preferred
Working knowledge of data privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, etc.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas strongly preferred: (1) B2B marketing and advertising issues; (2) licensing and regulatory issues related to commercial alarm products and monitoring services; and/or (3) privacy and data protection issues in AI, biometrics, and facial recognition technologies
Excellent legal and business judgment with the ability to provide practical, concise advice
Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines
