Primary Purpose :Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds. To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.
Qualifications:Education/Certification:High School Diploma, GED or acceptable work experience
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to communicate in English, both written and oral.Demonstrate appropriate computer skills.Ability to understand and follow instructions for cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures.Demonstrated knowledge of safe and efficient operation, maintenance and repair of all district cleaning equipment and supplies.Ability to effectively function on an active working team to accomplish a variety of tasks.Current driver's license and ability to meet insurance requirements to operate a district vehicle.
Experience:Minimum of 3 years' experience in school custodial services preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:Cleaning
Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning and polishing of floors, marker boards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean.Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.Maintenance and Repair
Assist with lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.Move furniture or equipment as directed by supervisor.Repair equipment as trained and directed.Keep district vehicles clean and maintained.Assist in setting up facilities for special events.Safety
Assist with opening and closing assigned buildings each school day.Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.Correct unsafe conditions in work areas and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
Equipment Used:Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuums, electric drill, hand tools, carpet cleaning equipment, and other equipment as assigned.
Working Conditions:Posture : Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion : Frequent walking, standing (up to 7.5 hours/day) climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching,
an d overhead reaching.
Lifting : Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment : Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, chemicals and materials; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours
Mental Demands : Maintain emotional control under stress
