Summary This is the Nurse (CAM), Tour Coordinator position located at Kayenta Service Unit, Inpatient Care Branch, Kayenta, AZ. The primary purpose is to guide and coordinate the work of professional and non-professional staff, and plans and implements programs and processes to improve the quality of the patient's care for multiple areas during non-administrative hours. Incumbent reports to the Supervisory Nurse. Responsibilities Closely observes patients for conditions that may require emergency measures and assists with patient care in these emergencies Provides routine nursing care services to individuals eligible for services provided by the Indian Health Service in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations Sets up monitors, maintains and interprets data from electronic and other medical equipment Provides consultation and guidance to staff nurses with complicated or critical patients Makes nursing rounds to evaluate patient care needs, staffing, environmental, and safety aspects Works collaboratively with professional and non-professional staff, superiors, internal and external customers and other individuals involved in direct patient care Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency in unit specific nursing knowledge and practice Maintains a professional caring attitude when dealing with patients, their families, hospital health care providers and other departments Functions as a member of the Nurse Executive Team Coordinates nursing activities in the absence of unit supervisor for Emergency department, Medical-Surgical units, Intensive care unit, Post Anesthesia/Recovery/Operating Room, Pediatric, Obstetrical Care Unit and Ambulatory care units Ensures nursing staff demonstrate comprehensive nursing care Supports Service Unit recruitment and retention activities and promotes awards and recognition of staff Participates with hospital performance improvement to assure compliance with hospital accreditation and Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) standards This position is being announced concurrently under Direct Hire Authority procedures. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, The District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Basic Requirements for the GS-11: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PHD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. The specialized experience examples includes: assess, plan, implement, direct and evaluate the care of patients in a hospital facility setting; prepare work performance plans, coordinates patient care and support activities to ensure smooth hospital operations for admissions, discharges, and transfers; collaborates with leadership to assure compliance with Joint Commission, Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), etc. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
