Position Summary:Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Services, provides physical therapy services in the areas of student assessment, direct therapy, training and consultation for staff, parents, and equipment fabrication or adaptation to enable students to function to their highest possible level within the educational system. Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the assessment and program evaluation for students. Acts as a liaison with medical and community service providers on behalf of children with disabilities under Section 504 or IDEA and their families.

Qualifications:Washington State ESA certificate with Physical Therapist endorsement.

Essential Functions:Complies with state and federal regulations regarding special education and the practice of physical therapy.Manages a caseload as determined by district need.Reviews educational and medical records and performs assessments in the areas of gross-motor function; activities of daily living and self-help skills; sensor motor development; muscle strength and endurance; gait and mobility; range of motion; equipment needs; function of orthotic and prosthetic devices; and prevocational skills.Determines educational significance of student's physical, sensory or perceptual-motor deficits in terms of functional needs.Recommends appropriate methods of intervention to remediate or compensate for benefits as related to environment.Plans treatment programs including establishing IEP goals and objectives. Implements therapy programs including direct intervention and/or on-going consultation to classroom teacher and parents.Provides intervention recommendations for implementation in the classroom and home.Identifies equipment needs and assists in securing, fabricating, adapting, and maintaining the equipment.Maintains accurate comprehensive records of individual student's progress in therapy within timelines determined by the district. Communicates and/or consults with physicians through oral or written reports and conferences to facilitate implementation of therapy programs.Confers with parents and staff regarding therapy services and progress.Consults with families and community medical and social service agencies in coordinating services and home programs.Participates with other guidance team members in the multidisciplinary assessment of students for qualification as a person with disabilities under Section 504 or IDEAProvides training and supervision for physical therapy assistants and/or students.Complies with all Medicaid rules and regulations.Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Services and other administrators as designated by the Superintendent.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.Salary:Paid per teacher salary schedule with Base contract plus additional contracts for LEAP days, and Responsibility. Additional Technology stipend and Professional Fund. See LWEA salary schedule posted on website. Full benefit package available for employees working a minimum of 630 hours during the school year.
