Job Description:
The Life Cycle Engineering Department supports the design, integration, and construction of modernized systems and equipment on in-service Navy surface combatants.
This position reports to the DDG 1000 Planning Yard Engineering team, to provide functional Electrical Engineering analysis and Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) support for DDG 1000 Class Destroyers.
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Performing functional Electrical Engineering analysis for installation of ShipAlts into DDG 1000 class ships.Supporting update of associated databases and calculations, and configuration management of changes to power systems since new construction, for DDG 1000 Electric Plant Load Analysis.Specifying new functional designs and design changes in support of Navy contracts, Ship Change Documents (SCDs) and special studies for DDG 1000 class ships.Working with customers (Navy, Installing Activities, Procurement, Contracts, Detail Design, and On-Site Design Representatives) to resolve technical issues, recommend changes and maintain appropriate communications.Some travel to ships Home Ports and Availability executing Shipyards may be required.Working with customers to resolve technical issues, recommend changes and maintain appropriate communications.Developing new and/or editing class common equipment procurement specifications.Reviewing and approving BIW developed detail design products.Reviewing and approving Vendor Furnished Information.Reviewing and approving Government Furnished Information.Required/Preferred Education/Training:
High School Diploma or GED required.BIW Design Apprentice graduate preferred.
Required/Preferred Experience:Sr. Technician - 10+ years' experience with US Navy Ships requiredPrincipal Technician - 15+ years' experience with US Navy Ships requiredFamiliarity with DDG 1000 power distribution systems preferred.
Familiarity with DDG 1000 Engineering Control Systems preferred.
Familiarity with CATIA preferred.
Familiarity with Design Support Tool database preferred.
Familiarity with shipbuilding required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to organize, plan, and execute projects.
Highly motivated, strong attention to detail with proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
WINDOWS and WINDOWS software operating skills required.
Microsoft Excel and Word skills required, proficiency in Access preferred.
This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
