The DCFS Server Modernization Project aims to migrate legacy applications from outdated hardware and software (Microsoft Server 2008 and later, IIS, SQL Server, ASP, ASP.Net, etc.) to modern Microsoft Servers. This project involves reviewing up to 150 applications to determine the necessary changes for modernization, which may include modifications, re-platforming, rebuilding, or decommissioning. All applications must be thoroughly tested using new technologies before the legacy platforms and applications can be decommissioned. In the role of Senior Solutions Architect, your technical focus will be on Architectural Risk Management and be a key advisor to the project delivery team. Your secondary focus will be ensuring minimal operational disruption to the agency and the agency’s customers and helping the engagement support other operational objectives that could be impacted during the migration process.
Job Responsibilities:
Lead the technical aspects of the DCFS Server Modernization Project, ensuring the successful migration of legacy applications to modern Microsoft Servers.
Strive to bring technical focus to risk management, risk mitigation, and risk assessment of technical issues that could impact operational activities, agency priorities, and project objectives and goals.
Provide technical leadership and consultative guidance in creating testing strategies that support application migration technical goals.
Conduct an initial 3-week onsite period, working 3 days per week at 1 North Old State Capital Plaza, Springfield, IL.
Post-introductory period, work onsite 3 days per month, with potential for up to 3 additional days per month as needed.
Oversee the architectural review and assessment of up to 150 applications, determining necessary changes for modernization.
Develop and implement solutions for application migration, including re-platforming, rebuilding, and decommissioning.
Provide general technical architectural support and guidance.
Ensure all applications are thoroughly tested on new technologies before decommissioning legacy platforms.
Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to ensure project goals and timelines are met.
Provide strong technical and functional leadership and clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Skills:
Experience : At least 10 years of experience as a Senior Solutions Architect with a strong background in leading large-scale IT projects.
Agile Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) : Extensive Agile methodologies experience.
Technical Knowledge :
Proficiency with JIRA and Microsoft Azure DevOps (ADO).
Strong knowledge of .NET full-stack development concepts, including Internet Information Services (IIS).
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database migration and performance tuning.
Proficiency in ASP.Net application development, XSLT, JavaScript, and Restful API development.
Experience in application migration to new hosting platforms.
Leadership and Communication : Proven ability to provide technical/functional leadership, manage multiple tasks, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge Gathering : Support and define critical areas of technical knowledge related to changes from modernization.
Beneficial Skills (But Not Required):
TOGAF Experience and certification are highly beneficial.
Industry Experience : Experience working with Health and Human Services Agencies.
Additional Technical Skills : Familiarity with legacy and modern Microsoft Server environments, including virtualization.
