About The Team
SmartThings is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Infrastructure and Observability team. We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Manager excited about building networking and running observability tools. This team establishes a common pattern for Networking and monitors the health and hygiene of the SmartThings platform. This team manages the tooling around platform observability, including logging tooling, metrics, trace tooling, and internal tooling for FinOps. The team helps developers by providing data/tools to enable a seamless, sustainable, and reliable SmartThings Platform.Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership:Coach, mentor, and develop team members personally and professionally
Lead end-to-end execution of initiatives and projects with your team, track progress, and maintain a clear perspective on deadlines and roadmaps
Establish team and individual goals
Balance business needs with people needs and be effective in breaking down work for the team
Ensure that team members get enough stretch assignments to grow them
Continuously improve team practices and procedures
Domain Execution and Management:Develop, maintain, and communicate team roadmaps
Curate Team backlog
Hands-on to provide coverage if and when needed
Stakeholder ManagementOrganize work and active ownership of stakeholder communication on ongoing projects
Active collaboration with cross-functional teams across SmartThings and Samsung (Korea) to design and deliver complex and innovative new products
Foster healthy working relationships with distributed teams
Customer Focus:Actively engage with service teams
Listen to requests, understand the ask, respond, and act on the request
Collaborate on engineering processes and be a willing partner or driver of process changes

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering /Computer Science or similar discipline
5+ years of experience with distributed software with a focus on Networking/Observability (eg. microservices, SaaS platform)
3+ years of experience managing software teams
Organizational skills and Program management experience
Proactive stakeholder communication and management
Iterative development methodologies (eg. Agile methodologies)
Travel: May include 10-15%, including occasional trips to South Korea
Desired SkillsLogging or APM usage experience
SRE background is a plus
Working knowledge of AWS/Azure
Infrastructure knowledge/networking
Experience with agile methodologies
High level of comfort communicating effectively across internal and external organizations
Experience working with global teams in Korea and India
