NATURE OF WORK:Transport students safely and efficiently, to and from school, according to a specified route and time schedule. Provide a safe and orderly atmosphere while adhering to all safety regulations.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
10 Month
SALARY:
Grade 51B - Minimum $15.00 / Hour
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or GED requiredMust have at least six months of driving experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of ageMust posses a valid NC Driver's License and a good driving recordMust submit to a preemployment background checkMust submit to preemployment, as well as random and post-accident, drug testingMust possess good moral characterMust maintain a professional appearance at all timesMust attend and successfully complete classroom (virtual) and behind the wheel training, conducted by DMV personnel
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to obtain an NCDOT medical card (paid for by OCS)Must have acceptable visionMust have acceptable hearingMust be able to lift up to 50 poundsMust be able to stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, climb, and sit for extended periods of timeMust be able to enter and exit the bus in a forward-facing movementMust be able to exit the bus through the rear emergency doorMust be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staffMust be able to perform routine cleaning taskMust be able to complete and update required paperwork in a timely manner
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Transport students to/from school from stops along established routesTake all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, employees, equipment, and propertyObey all federal, state, and local lawsAdhere to all provisions of the Pupil Transportation Regulations of Board of Education and all terms of the School Bus Driver HandbookMaintain knowledge of assigned routes and students assigned to busSupervise students and maintain discipline on the busEnsure students stay in seats while bus is in operationPerform daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and report all damage and/or malfunctions to supervisor immediatelyClean and sanitize interior of the bus regularlyClean exterior of bus including windows and light lensesReport all traffic violations and accidents promptlyReport all injuries, illness, and discipline problems to the appropriate immediately or as soon as reasonably possibleEnsure that no student is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any timeEnsure all students have departed bus at the end of every routeInstruct students in rider safety annually and practice emergency exit drills at least twice annuallyPrevent any object to be placed in the bus that would restrict passageways or emergency exitsKeep all items on the bus securedDrive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weatherReport personal absences in time for the supervisor to secure a substitute driverAttend all required in-service trainingRecord mileage, maintain records, and complete reports fully and accuratelyExercise good judgement in appraising situationsExercise tact and courtesy in contact with parents/guardians, students, and all staffModel non-discriminatory practices in all activitiesOperate a two-way radio as a means of communication to supervisor and/or transportation department onlyPerform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
