This role will be responsible for hiring and developing existing partners with the skills to test the design and operational effectiveness of controls in a wide range of risk areas across Northern Trust.The Head of 1LOD Control Testing is responsible for the design, development, and execution of the independent control testing framework. This includes the development and ongoing enhancement of the controls testing and monitoring policy, standards, and procedures to define the program as well as the execution of testing to ensure controls are designed and are operating effectively. The role will partner and collaborate with other 2LOD areas and the first line of defense (1LOD) to ensure all testing, reviews, corrective action plans, documentation, and reports are in compliance with operational, regulatory, and company guidelines, policies, and procedures.The key responsibilities of the role include:Independently develop and maintain a risk-based control testing program to review and challenge the design adequacy and effectiveness of key controls across the enterprise.Develop and implement sound sampling methodologies and requirements to be deployed by testers across the enterprise.Establish an automated control validation strategy to efficiently expand coverage of control monitoring.Establish the strategic plan for the design and development of the 1LOD centralized control testing group and the timely execution of testing and assurance to further strengthen Northern Trust’s control environment.Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and actionable reporting to senior leadership and governance committees.Work closely with senior leadership across the enterprise, in all three lines of defense, to support the continued maturation of the control environment.Oversee a team of control testers and managers responsible for executing the risk-based control testing program.Proactively identify and implement testing automation and analytics where appropriate.The successful candidate will benefit from having:Bachelor’s degreeSignificant experience in relevant control testing, regulatory, examination or Internal Audit experienceStrong understanding of control frameworks, testing methodologies, and risk assessmentsHighly effective interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to positively influence all levels of personnel, including senior leadership.Experience leading and developing team membersExperience in financial services industry, including regulatory experienceProven success building and implementing control testing programs to evaluate the design and adequacy and effectiveness of key controlsExceptional data visualization skillsSelf-motivated with strong collaboration and influencing skillsAbility to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to change; comfortable dealing with ambiguity and uncertaintyExcellent critical and creative thinking, decision-making and innovative problem-solving skillsWorking with Us:As a Northern Trust partner, greater achievements await.
