General Summary
We have a great opportunity for a Global Marketing Manager to join our Flexible Packaging group at Michelman. You will have the opportunity to lead a strategic segment within our Printing & Packaging group. You will create the global growth strategy and lead major growth programs for the Flexible Packaging segment of the Printing & Packaging group, with an emphasis on developing sustainable solutions that contribute to the Circular Economy. Through collaboration with the R&D/technology team, you will understand the unmet needs in this segment, and develop solutions that will create growth and value for Michelman and our customers. By engaging with colleagues around the world, you will help address regional specific growth opportunities and expand our market position worldwide. You will participate on and lead cross-functional teams and work with customer and industry partners to deliver new products that provide long term sustainable advantages for both them and Michelman.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Segment Leadership
Own and manage the segment strategic planning process and growth plan
Identify, quantify, and prioritize strategic market opportunities utilizing sound market and industry research and develop and deliver the business case
Develop competitive and technology landscape, mapping Michelman competitive position/advantage/strategy
Build value chain analysis, including key relational players and industry ecosystem
Conduct primary market research and insights through VOC collection at key customers and other influencers to refine the strategy
Develop and execute business plans for target segments
Establish and monitor segment pricing strategy
Work closely with a cross functional group of R&D, Business Development, and Sales associates to establish and manage the market development and growth strategy for the segment using project management and stage gate/concept to commercialization processes
Market-Driven New Product Development and Commercialization
Evaluate opportunities driven by market-needs and translate them into product concept proposals for evaluation and consideration
Develop next generation product concepts that solve unmet needs of the marketplace and specific applications
Sponsor product development growth projects utilizing a stage gate/concept commercialization process together with project management tools
Develop the business case, value proposition, and pricing strategy
Work collaboratively with allied partners (OEMs of equipment/technology and channel partners who may not be direct customers) to develop and commercialize new products and technologies
Conduct voice of customer work to uncover and validate market needs
Plan, execute, and support commercial launch
Demand-Side Marketing
Identify and engage key buying influencers in target markets working with sales and business development
Promote Michelman solutions, identify pull-through sales opportunities, and work with Sales and Business Development to deliver growth of existing products
Develop strategies and tactics to build the brand and support launches with advertising and sales promotions and provide direction and leadership to Michelmans’ market communications (MARCOM) team
Provide awareness and networking with related associations and attendance at industry conferences related to the circular economy will be required.
Ability to be the face of Michelman to the flexible packaging industry representing our place in the circular economy including committee/board memberships and presentations at key conferences and trade shows
Other
25% travel estimate, with 75% of that travel being domestic. Some OEM partners and conferences that will be attended are international and will require some international travel

Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Packaging
Deep understanding of the flexible packaging industry; the market, competitors, value chain, customers and applications
High technical aptitude for packaging. Expert understanding of the role of coatings and coating functionality in fiber and film-based packaging solutions
Past experience in regulated industries and applications, particularly in food industries with related knowledge of food contact
Knowledge of the chemistry and application methods for Michelman products utilized in flexible packaging as well as the supply chain for delivering the products to the end user
Deep understanding of the concept of the circular economy and the current ongoing efforts of brands and converters to help fulfill this vision
Proven ability and knowledge to communicate product needs using technical terminology that will help guide technical development teams
Skills
Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, matrix-based environment with multiple priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong external focus with a growth mindset

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Science, Engineering or Bachelor's degree in Business with relevant industry experience.
Advanced business degree preferred
Minimum 10 years of experience in flexible packaging markets with extensive experience in film-based solutions
5 years B2B marketing experience in the chemicals supply chain industry with notable progression of responsibilities
Proven ability to develop and deliver strategic business plans including analysis and quantification of potential and addressable markets
Proven track record of launching new growth programs and delivering results
Strong network of contacts in the flexible packaging industry
