SUMMARY:The Nurse will promote and maintain the health of school children through care, prevention, education, and counseling and have responsibilities in the following areas:1) Administrative2) Health Services3) Health Education4) Professionalism
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintains all licenses and certifications, and submits proof of renewal to the SupervisorAssumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and referral activities for students in the school district.Provides for the promotion and maintenance of health as well as the prevention of illness and injuries. This facilitates the removal of health-related barriers to learning and promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.Responsible for direct and indirect care given to students in compliance with professional standards of practice, licensed health care provider orders, Individual Health Care Plan and with school district policies.Functions in accordance with the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act and Rules and Regulations, NH State Department of Education Rules and Regulations and the school district's policies and procedures.Collaborates with a wide variety of school system and professional disciplines to enhance the educational process and the promotion of an optimal level of wellness for students.The School Nurse clinically functions independently, and is self-directed(The specifics of these duties and responsibilities are defined at the building level.)
Organizes, administers and manages school health services.Direct supervision of licensed practical nurse or licensed nursing assistant working in the school system.Assists in the preparation and implementation of the school health services budget.Insures the maintenance of accurate health records for all children and the submission of all reports relating to the health of children to the State or other appropriate agencies.Serves on school and/or District Wellness Team and assists with related policy development.Collaborates as a member on a school-wide team to help identify students at risk for physical and psychosocial problems.Recommends changes for safety hazards and sanitary conditions in the school environment.Coordination and participation in the establishment, review and implementation of District school health services policies and procedures.Provides professional expertise in emergency management planning.Provides leadership in the planning of proper emergency care and first aid for sudden illnesses and accidents incurred during school activities.Responsible for the formulation, revision and implementation of the IndividualHealth Care Plan.
Coordinates the health screenings on an as needed basis. Interprets the health screening results to parents and teachers, and assists in the follow-up and referral of children.Acts as a liaison between the family, school, health care professionals and community to improve the holistic health needs of students.Participates as the health expert on Individualized Education Plan and 504 teams.Serves as a health consultant and resource person for the health education in the classroom.May assist in the coordination of the Health Curriculum.Uses opportunities provided by illness and/or injury to teach principles of personal safety, modes of transmissions of communicable diseases, signs and symptoms of illness, personal hygiene, prevention of disease and first aid.Assists students, families and school personnel to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health services and health education.Provides training to staff members for health-related issues.Respects the dignity, confidentiality and rights of all students and staff.Upholds regulations and laws related to confidentiality, reporting of child abuse and neglect, and other health-related requirements.Maintains professional competencies through in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth programs.Coordination and participation in the establishment, review and implementation of District school health services policies and procedures.Performs other tasks or services directly related to this position.Evaluation & Professional Growth:
The individual in this position is expected to participate the in the professional growth and evaluation process in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Professional Development Master Plan.

Occasionally stooping, bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.Frequently reaching, extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.Occasionally standing, particularly for sustained periods of time.Occasionally walking, moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.Occasionally lifting, raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.Frequently fingering, picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.Frequently feeling, perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.Frequently grasping, applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.Physically able to operate a variety of job related machines and/or office equipmentSedentary work.
