Glassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates in the capacity of a School Bus Driver. This position is responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 21 years of age, have a High School diploma, a basic New Jersey driver's license, and have three (3) years driving experience. A minimum of a class C commercial driver's license. Must have (P) passenger and (S) school bus endorsements. Must have 20/40 vision in each eye with or without corrective lenses, 70-degree peripheral vision in each eye, be able to recognize red, green, and amber colors, and be morally and physically fit. Background check and fingerprints required.

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor/Transportation Coordinator

JOB GOAL/MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

Safely and efficiently drive school bus to assigned locations on a designated route in accordance with specified time schedules and in accordance with regulations and laws related to pupil transportation. Assure the safety of students during transport and loading and unloading from buses. Perform routine safety inspections. Pick up and discharge students at established bus stops; escort children across streets or roadways, stopping traffic as necessary; report incidents or conditions affecting the safety of students as appropriate. Conduct Pre-Trip & Post-Trip inspections. Maintain bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections including cleaning windows, mirrors, and bus interior and exterior; check overall condition of tires and rims, ensure there are no obstructions to the tires, check and maintain fuel, oil, (possible leakage) and water levels. Check brakes, brake lights, wheelchair lifts, and doors (including emergency exists), report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel. Inspect wheelchairs and car/safety seats for safe transportation of students. Instruct students of safe riding procedures; maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus and while waiting at bus stops in accordance with District policies. Assist students with special needs to board, ride, and exit the bus safely; assist students in wheelchairs by loading and securing chairs before departure and assuring students are safely fastened into their seats; secure adaptive and assistive devices; utilize wheelchair lifts and tie-downs; operate a hydraulic lift as assigned. Communicate with students, parents, and District personnel, to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns related to bus routes, schedules, student behavior, and other assigned activities. Prepare student conduct, incident, and accident reports. Maintain electronic data collection, such as daily pre-trip inspection, daily mileage, student count, and school bus routing. Conduct State mandated school bus evacuations drills as required. Maintain routine written or electronic records related to inspections, maintenance, and assigned activities. Administer first aid or emergency assistance as needed. Attend classes, safety meetings, and in-service trainings as assigned or as required for maintenance of certificate and license. Perform related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a ten (10) month position with salary and contract terms to be negotiated with the Superintendent and the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
