Responsibilities :
Under close supervision of the Region Leader and with a clearly defined set of guidelines, generates profitable growth and makes sound underwriting decisions for assigned agencies.Serves as the primary PL contact for assigned agencies, Agency Coordinator for assigned Trilogy and Horizon agencies, and PL representative on cross-functional teams.Works with other underwriters, Senior/Master Underwriters, and Region Leader to develop skills, including underwriting acumen, sales techniques, interpersonal skills, analytical acumen, industry knowledge and overall understanding of Westfield business operations.Works with the Region Leader to pursue leads for new business pipeline.Based on authority level, reviews and approves new business and endorsement transactions submitted from assigned agents and refers to the appropriate authority level if needed. Evaluates large losses and refers to the Region Leader for approval. Performs loss referral and future status evaluations and documents for appropriate action. Sets up and issues non-renewals, cancellations, and direct notices.Under supervision of the Region Leader, and in collaboration with other business units, identifies and completes required analysis to develop, deliver, and monitor agency business plans for Trilogy, Horizon, and key agencies. Monitors all implemented plans within assigned territory monthly and provides a quarterly report to the Region Leader.With the assistance of the Region Leader, may assume Agency Coordinator role for assigned Trilogy or Horizon agency. This includes development, delivery and monitoring of agency business plans in coordination with other business segments.Performs loss referral evaluations, implements post-loss underwriting actions, evaluates large losses, and assesses claims risk analysis, MVRs, and other similar transactions.Reviews high value inspections for assigned agencies.Supports compliance initiatives within the department.Handles Insurance Department complaints. Coordinates with assigned agencies as needed, evaluates and prepares relevant information while ensuring proper procedures and processes are followed.Under direction of the Regional Leader, assists in implementing and supporting state/territory plans.Under the direction of the Region Leader, develops, implements and monitors all implemented sales plans for assigned agencies and provides quarterly reports to the Region Leader.Understands and applies Westfield's agency compensation philosophy including commissions, APS/supplemental comp, and custom compensation options.Works closely with the Region Leader to identify, build, deliver, and monitor custom compensation deals or other sales strategies.Works with the Region Leader and Transfer Book Team to identify, analyze, and assess transfer book opportunities. Works with the Region Leader to assure results are consistent with region strategies and implements corrective action, as required.Analyzes profit/growth performance at a territory/agency level and completes a monthly review with territory analysis. Utilizes Business Intelligence and other available tools to support the review process. Reviews findings with the Region Leader.Travels with the Region Leader to core agencies to establish/nurture relationships and to work on business/analysis plans and PL initiatives.Trains and educates agents on products, underwriting appetite, and automation technology in assigned territory and assists others in the department with agency training needs. For new agency appointments, responsible for taking lead on upfront PL training for agency staff. This may include conducting joint visits for training opportunities.Identifies basic competitor information and provides leadership with feedback on product, pricing, and rate/rule activities.Builds a strong awareness of the rate review and state planning processes.Participates in special projects as assigned.Travels as needed in order to perform other essential functions.Qualifications:
3+ years of P&C insurance experience -OR- successful completion of the Westfield Graduate Development Program (GDP).1+ years of underwriting experience working with moderate to high complexity accounts.Experience maintaining a high degree of customer service focus gained via previous work assignments.Experience analyzing problems and developing business solutions.Strong organizational skills gained through previous work experience.Experience multi-tasking and prioritizing work assignments to ensure deadlines are met.Ability to apply knowledge and experience to effectively address issues and make timely, high-quality, and correct decisions.Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication with the ability to interact with all levels of the company.Working towards or possess a CPCU, AU, CIC, API, and/or AINS designation.Experience with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, and Excel or transferable software packages.Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience.Valid driver's license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.Physical essential functions: ability to work 40 hours in an office environment (sitting, standing, on a computer, etc.), operate office related technology (computer, phone, etc.), travel as required.
