School Bus Driver Trainee
The School Bus Driver Trainee participates in a comprehensive entry level school bus operations training program consisting of both classroom and behind-the-wheel training. The School Bus Driver Trainee learns fundamental skills in school bus safety, school transportation law, student management, and safe on-road operation of a school bus. Upon successful completion of this limited duration training program, the candidate may be promoted to School Bus Driver or Substitute School Bus Driver with a corresponding increase in pay.
This is a part-time position working not more than 15 hours per week.Normal hours are 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during the training period (Typically 3-4 weeks)Work hours are subject to occasional adjustment.Rate of pay is $10.00 per hour.This position reports to the Transportation Supervisor or designee.
Normal job duties would include, but not be limited to:
Learning and developing a "100% safety" mindset as it relates to the transportation of studentsLearning and developing effective and appropriate student management skillsLearning the safe operation of a school bus, including pre-trip inspections post-trip inspections, and driving skillsLearning and developing appropriate two-way radio communications skillsCompleting all requirements to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "P" and "S" endorsements
Minimum requirements include:
25 years of age or olderA high school diploma or GEDCriminal background checkPre-employment drug screenAbility to use telephone and two-way radioRead, write, and speak the English language
