SUMMARY : Drives school busses to transport students safely and efficiently to and from school and related activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

include the following:Obeys all traffic regulations from federal, state, and local authorities.Reports all accidents to the Central Office and to the proper law enforcement agency.Secures a physical examination and reports any physical, mental, or emotional condition that might impair driving ability.Ensures that pupils on his/her bus are informed of school and bus regulations at the beginning of each school year.Maintains discipline on the bus and reports any serious infraction of school and bus rules to the school principal.Models a positive attitude towards students and peers.Makes decisions and judgments that ensure safety of children.Makes appropriate use of two-way radio.Communicates with students, parents, administrators and teachers as required to resolve problems on the bus.Keeps the bus clean and in good repair. Makes sure preventive maintenance is completed on the bus. Maintenance issues should be reported to the bus mechanic/garage.Reports hazards along the bus route that might endanger the bus or other vehicles.Works with the Director of Transportation to improve the efficiency of the school corporation's transportation services.Attends meetings and training as directed by the Director of Transportation.Files reports required by the school corporation.Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to the Director of Transportation and his/her secretary, principals, students, faculty, and other employees of the school corporation.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY :Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :Must possess a valid state commercial bus driver's license and hold all bus driving credentials required by law. Driver must also hold a valid CDL physical and physical fitness form kept on file with Transportation Director and required Federal agencies. Must also have completed all required training courses offered by the school corporation,

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Specifically, the important aspects of vision are:Acuity, far - Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.Acuity, near - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.Depth Perception - three-dimensional vision.Ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.Field of Vision - Area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.Accommodation - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus.This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from the eye.Color Vision - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES : The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and is sufficient to cause marked distractions or possible hearing loss. There are no environmental hazards indicated for this position.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 180-day work agreement. The work agreement does not include additional paid days required for training, meetings, etc. Salary and benefits to be determined by the School Board.

EVALUATION : Performance will be evaluated by the Director of Transportation in accordance with School Board policy.
