Bus Drivers - Contracted, Substitutes & Trips

Bus Drivers are needed to drive our children to and from school, as well as field trips and athletic events.

We will provide training to obtain your CDL Class B with air brakes, passenger and school bus endorsements. Applicants that already have the proper license are preferred.

Contract positions are available at this time, all other positions are for substitute drivers. Contracts guarantee 6 hours per day with benefits. Substitute drivers are not guaranteed hours, though they will be very busy most of the time covering runs and trips.

Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, with a minimum of three (3) years' driving experience. Must obtain a valid commercial driver's license with the required endorsements.Must comply with all State and Federal requirements pertaining to medical examinations and drug and alcohol testing, as well as State Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation background checks.Must maintain a good driving record as determined by the Board of Education.Responsibilities:

All regular and substitute bus drivers employed by the Board of Education shall perform the following duties as well as any others that may be assigned by the Transportation Supervisor, and/or delineated in the contract.

Shall drive defensively at all times, obeying all traffic laws and Federal Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act regulations. Shall exercise appropriate judgment in potentially critical situations, and possess a sincere concern for the welfare of all riders.Shall be responsible for using a lap belt and for implementing the child restraint law.Shall only transport those persons authorized by the Board of Education.Shall follow the established route and discharge students only at authorized stops, as designated by the Board of Education.Shall personally conduct a walk-through inspection of the bus after each route or trip to check for students that may still be on the bus, as well as any student's belongings.Shall be in charge of the bus at all times, and be responsible for good order. The driver shall report disciplinary problems to the Administrator of the receiving school, using the appropriate forms.Shall conduct a daily pre-trip inspection of the school vehicle and report any defects found, on the appropriate form, to the proper authority. The driver shall maintain a properly completed daily inspection form in the bus, and submit it to the transportation office daily.Shall participate in emergency evacuation drills in accordance with Board policy.Shall attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions.Shall report all accidents, property damage and pupil injuries to the proper authorities immediately, and complete any forms, reports or other documents as required.Shall submit a copy of all necessary documents pertinent to employment as a school bus driver, including a working telephone number for emergency notifications, to the Transportation Supervisor.Shall maintain up-to-date seating charts for all routes.Shall notify the Transportation Supervisor should a safety concern or problem arise with any route.Shall keep school vehicles clean and properly cared for.
