Purpose of Job:
To pick up and deliver children according to a planned schedule.
Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.
General Responsibilities/Essential Functions
:Pick up and deliver children according to planned scheduleMaintain student discipline at all timesReport any misconduct of a student to the principal or designated personnelMaintain a clean, safe environment by sweeping and/or cleaning the bus periodicallyRefrain from use of profanity or tobacco while transporting studentsMaintain bus by reporting any malfunctions and/or needed services to the Director of Operations and MechanicsPre-trip vehicle before each runReport all accidents no matter how minorHelp children develop safe habits while entering and leaving a vehiclePerform a walk through after completion of each route to ensure no child has remained on boardFederal and State Regulations:Must have an annual health examination (TCA 49-6-2108)Drivers are required to attend a State mandated training program each calendar yearEmployees are subject to random/ reasonable drug and alcohol testingDrivers are prohibited from the use of a mobile telephone while operating a school bus, loaded or unloaded (TCA 55-8-192). Mobile telephone means cellular, analog, wireless or digital telephone. Violation of this section is a class C misdemeanorDrivers may not allow a student to depart the bus at a location other than their designated stop without written permission from parent/guardian (TCA 49-6-2118)Obey all state/federal traffic laws and railroad crossing laws and regulationsUse eight way system while loading/unloading at schools, unless secure area (TCA 55-8-151)Note possible causes for dismissal:Confirmed violation at a railroad crossingPositive drug testFailure to report to work without proper notification to Director of OperationsChargeable/conviction of a traffic violation which caused serious injury or deathUse of cell phone while on bus (loaded or unloaded)Allowing students to de-board other than at their designated stop without parental/guardian permissionOther Duties and Responsibilities
Project a positive image of the LSSD at all timesKeep information confidential concerning school businessAct in a professional manner at all timesMay operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activitiesSuccessful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screenPerforms other duties as assignedQualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
High school diplomaMust have Class B commercial driver's license with P & S endorsementsMust be sensitive and responsive to the needs of children and their parentsAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsMust be at least 26 years of ageBe of good moral characterBe free of any felony criminal recordSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Operations or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable
Abilities/Physical Requirements
Shall be of general good health and musculoskeletal function must be such that he/she can operate a school bus safely. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant finger dexterity. This position is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
