Position Summary:

The

Internal

Medicine

Faculty

Physician

serves

as

part

of

core

faculty

for

ambulatory

clinic and/or

inpatient teaching

service.

Provides administrative

support

to

educational training programs for

medical students, interns,

residents and

Physicians

at

McLaren Macomb through curriculum design

and

evaluation,

planning,

clinical supervision, personnel management, special projects and program development.

Reporting structure:

Works collaboratively with the IM Program Director and reports to the Director of Medical Education / ADIO for all administrative matters, and reports to the Senior Vice President, Medical Administration for all clinical matters.

1.

Devote the majority of their professional effort to teaching, and patient care within the program, including:

a.

Curriculum and didactics development.

b.

Evaluation of interns, residents and faculty.

c.

Administrative duties as assigned and in collaboration and agreement with the IM Program Director, Associate DIO/DME, Senior Vice President-Medical Affairs, and McLaren Healthcare Chief Academic Officer.

d.

Participating and mentoring residents in PCMH, PCRS, PGIP, MPP, EMR meaningful use, etc. activities at the IM resident clinic.

e.

Participating upon request in program committees and activities as assigned by the Program Director (APE. PEC, CCC, and faculty development activities).

2.

Provide supervision to IM residents.

This includes:

a.

Assisting interns and residents with patient evaluation, management plans, and documentation in clinical settings.

b.

Adherence to guidelines for evaluation and management, including appropriate coding and preceptor documentation.

c.

Prompt review of charts with feedback to residents and interns.

d.

Review of diagnostic results with feedback to residents and interns.

3.

Maintain clinical skills as a practicing internist in the ambulatory and inpatient settings.

4.

Contribute to the academic component of the IM Residency program and overall medical education program of the hospital in accordance with current ACGME training standards.

Specific examples include:

a.

Clinical precepting in the ambulatory setting.

b.

Regularly participating in organized clinical discussions, in the ambulatory setting.

c.

Establishing and maintaining an environment of inquiry and scholarship with an active research component; encouraging and supporting residents in scholarly activities.

d.

Participating in faculty meetings and faculty development.

5.

Maintain medical staff privileges and credentialing in accordance with McLaren Macomb Medical Staff bylaws.

This includes:

a.

Attendance at departmental and assigned committee meetings

b.

Timely completion of medical records

c.

Maintenance of professional and ethical standards

6.

Be available to interns and residents to provide counseling and mentorship, with a focus on resident well-being.

Qualifications

Required

1.

DO or MD degree from accredited medical school.

2.

Board Certified / Eligible in Internal Medicine by AOBIM or ABIM.

3.

Active license to practice medicine in the State of Michigan.

4.

Engaged in providing direct patient care at MM Hospital and / or the IM resident clinic.

5.

Membership in appropriate medical society and specialty college.

6.

Be attitudinally suited to participate in a residency training program.

Preferred Qualifications

1.

Previous faculty experience in an AOA or ACGME-accredited IM Residency Program.
