PRIMARY PURPOSE:Oversees custodians in absence of the Head Custodian. Follows routine and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education:High School Diploma or GED Certificate (Preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of scheduling, training and personnel managementKnowledge of all aspects of cleaning and basic techniques of minor repairsAbility to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipmentAbility to properly handle cleaning suppliesStrong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skillsAbility to perform general computer functions preferred.Must pass a pre-employment physical examination

Experience:Two years of custodial experience, preferably in public education environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Demonstrates proper cleaning procedures by cleaning an assigned area.

2. Gives daily report on all custodial incidents, problems, and accidents including equipment problems, safety gear, counseling needed, and is able to document properly when necessary

3. Manages the maintenance, safety and proper use of equipment.

4. Knows where SDS books can be located and how to use them, making certain that all custodians on the shift know the same.

5. Opens areas as needed for evening activities.

6. Ensures that all buildings are secure at the end of shift.

7. Collects and locks up all night custodians' keys at the end of the work shift.

8. Maintains positive professional behavior with students, teacher/staff, parents, and community members.

9. Upholds and models district expectations for custodial staff

10. Completes new employee area training before they are released to work their assigned area.

Mental Demands:Ability to concentrate, ability to effectively communicate both verbally and electronically, interpret procedures, differentiate, memorize, read, and maintains emotional control under stress.

Demands/Environmental Factors:Ability to lift and/or carry moderate weight (15 - 54 pounds) on a daily basis, stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, pull, push, reach, hear, speak, repetitive hand motions, maintain visual acuity, and distinguish colors. Must be able to work inside and outside in temperature extremes, slippery or uneven surfaces, chemical exposure (asbestos, fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, smoke, etc.); works with hands in water, works around machinery with moving parts, and may work alone for long periods of time.The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
