Description
Assumes charge of the bus and passengers while the bus is in-route and is responsible for the safety and conduct of those transported - transports only authorized students and adult sponsors and obeys all traffic laws and the district policy driver expectations.Operates according to assigned schedules and routes, transporting passengers to and from their home, a variety of school sites, and on field trips as assigned.Accessible to dispatcher or supervisor for daily assignments, covers routes and/or other runs as the supervisor or dispatcher directs.Provides notification of delays in scheduled route.Assists and instructs passengers in proper loading and unloading procedures.Ensure a proper sweep of the bus so no passengers are left unattended. Ensure that children take their belongings with them when leaving the bus.Responsible for: securing wheelchairs on the bus; securing safety straps to the frame of the wheelchair and securing the seatbelt/harness.Ensure students are seated using seat belts at all times.Documents and reports discipline problems to the transportation supervisorReports to work on time, is reliable for regular and overtime work, and is absent only with good cause.Makes neat, legible, and accurate transportation records as required.Maintains a clean bus externally and internally, maintains appropriate level of fuel, conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspection, and reports maintenance problems via the Samsara system.Renders assistance, if needed, when the bus breaks down or is involved in an accident. Reports all accidents in accordance with the established accident protocol.Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings. Be adaptable and flexible in acceptance of changes in techniques and procedures.Follows the Dallas ISD Employee Standards of Conduct, exhibits good judgment in decision-making and problem-solving, works effectively with others, and follows the chain of command as noted in organizational policy. Presents a positive role model for patrons that supports the goals of Dallas ISD.Maintains a good working relationship with the parents and school staff, and maintains a disciplined decorum of the bus conducive to the safety of passengers and protection of property.Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.Qualifications
Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency) preferredTexas Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B) with Passenger (P) and School (S) endorsementsAbility to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests and annual physical examMeet all state (TEA) qualifications for school bus driversGood judgment in decision-makingProblem solverWorks effectively with othersPunctual and reliableCommunicate effectivelyAt least 21 years of age requiredType 3 driving record that meets the District's standard for operations of motor vehiclesMust be able to understand and take directions and feedback wellMust manage multiple tasks while prioritizing the safety of passengersMust be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing Bilingual preferred
