Staff Quantum Error Correction Engineer

The salary range for this position is $153,003 - $200,321.
We are looking for a Staff Quantum Error Correction Engineer. As a Staff Quantum Error Correction Engineer, you’ll be a part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
In this role, you will primarily develop efficient simulation tools to support quantum error correction (QEC) modeling and simulations of the trapped ion quantum computer.
You will implement efficient algorithms for QEC to simulate various device noise models using low level languages. You will work with the research and development team to support simulation needs for QEC for next-generation quantum systems and integration of the simulation software with the rest of the software stack. You will also help build, maintain and test software infrastructure necessary to enable circuit simulations at scale.
Responsibilities:
Implement methods and algorithms for efficient error correction simulations for next generation architectures
Develop and release scientific software to support QEC research
Benchmark and evaluate performances of various circuit simulation and decoding algorithms
Document and communicate technical findings to the engineering team
Integrate simulation software with other softwares in the simulation stack
Contribute to the automation, testing and parallelization of the codebase and simulation workflow
You’d be a good fit with:
Advanced Degree in Physics, Engineering or a related field with minimum 5 years of experience
Experience in C/C++
or Julia and Python for scientific computing and significant programming experience
You’d be a great fit with:
PhD in Quantum Physics
10+ years of experience in a professional setting
Experience in quantum error correction
Experience
in graph theory and Z2 algebra
Experience in parallel programming on CPU/GPU in Python/C++ or Julia
Experience running large scale simulations on CPU/GPU clusters
Experience with AMO physics and trapped ion systems
Experience with scripting and automating workflows in high-performance computing environments
