Oxford Instruments is looking for a highly skilled Customer Support Engineer to join the Nano Science team to service a series of complex low temperature equipment based in Santa Barbara CA.

About the Opportunity : We have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Support Service Engineer to be a hands-on leader. We need a technical, pragmatic individual who can trouble shoot and repair all assigned systems to the appropriate level, ensuring that the system is returned to full operation in accordance with its performance specification and within a cost effective time frame for Oxford and for the customer. Who will ensure the customer is aware at all times of the correct method to obtain basic results, basic safety and system care. The Service Support Engineer will install, and ensure the operation of assigned systems and options to factory performance specifications. Perform Basic "User Familiarization" Training at installations. Ensure that costs generated by actions undertaken are controlled. Ensure that all resources allocated e.g. vehicle, tools, test equipment are maintained in good condition. Understand and control available resources to achieve customer satisfaction (such as Product Managers).
The duties of this job require a high degree of specialized expertise and skill in maintaining established standards of quality and accuracy. Drive, determination and a self-disciplined approach to achieving results that meet these established criteria are necessary for successful job performance. While the pace of the work is faster than average, quality is never compromised. The work requires specialized technical problem solving and ingenuity while working within approved organizational systems and technology, and the demonstration of the values of integrity, quality and caution.
Key Responsibilities:
Install Oxford QX dilution refrigerator systems as they are delivered
Annual maintenance of dilution refrigerators currently on site, various manufacturers and models, 18 + systems which are in constant use.
Trouble shoot QX system.
Cross train with Plasma group to support the Plasma systems that are also on site.
Maintain service equipment and spare parts on site.
Train end users and support technical enquiries

About the Candidate:
The right candidate for this position will have a degree in Physics or Engineering, a strong background working with and/or servicing high vacuum and low temperature equipment, specifically Oxford Instruments products, as well as experience in low temperature Physics applications.Experience in mechanical assembly techniques (Soldering, welding) and basic understanding of low temperature thermometry is a must.
Additional qualifications:
Good record keeping habits and attention to detail.
Skilled with leak detection at cryogenic temperatures
Competent with network based control systems
Excellent people skills
Well organized
Salary: In accordance with California law, the expected annual salary range for this position is between $120,000 - $135,000. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
