Director of Engineering

Atlanta, GA.The Director Engineering will report to the Head of PDC and is responsible for managing all engineering activities relating to new product development andmaintenance of the new product platform. This role will be accountable for achieving project milestones, team building/development, ensuring proper test and qualifications, and successful product roll outs. This role will also partner effectively with cross functional teams, and heavily influence design for manufacturability/cost.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Accountability ObjectiveResponsible for the management and development of a engineering team across the businessAligns cross functionally to ensure flawless execution of new product launchesResponsible for the development and deployment of next generation processes for Engineering with a focus on standardization to leverage agility and flexibilityResponsible for implementing design for safety/manufacturability/cost strategiesLead the development of technology roadmaps, digital engineering tools and concepts to enhance and promote capabilityLead the development of R&D Engineering talent geared toward succession planning and career coaching/mentoringTakes an active role in driving development projects, value engineering and innovation initiatives to ensure consistent evaluation and documentation of processes, and innovative direction to reduce cost and improve sustainabilityDepartmental Leadership and Staff DevelopmentLead and direct Engineering in effective performance while maximizing cost efficiencies, process improvements and project on-time deliveryDevelop Training Plan for Staff to ensure adequate training of all new and existing employees to maximum performanceEngineering/Innovation Process Design and DevelopmentSupport cross functional quality and cost initiativesIntegrate global product design strategiesCoordinate with R&D stakeholders for successful product launches/enhancementsDevelop and improve R&D processes and industrialization strategiesDrives processes development to optimize efficient process flow, reduce process or product variability, improve process capability and improve employee safety.Departmental EfficienciesDevelops and maintains critical departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI)Coordinates product development initiatives to ensure increased efficienciesEnsures effective interdepartmental relationships to meet the assigned goals of the organizationEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or Operations/Manufacturing Systems or relevant field requiredMaster’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field preferredTen or more years of experience in the job offered or eight years of experience supervising manufacturing engineeringPossess working knowledge of sheet metal design and assembly manufacturing methods, injection molded plastic design and manufacturing techniques preferredDemonstrated pattern of initiative and leadership requiredDemonstrated experience working in a high mix, low volume vertically integrated facility preferredDemonstrated record of successfully directing full scale Industrial engineering tasks to maximize production efficiency and profitabilityPossess strong problem-solving skills and decision-making abilityPossess strong interpersonal skills and well-developed written and verbal communication skillsPossess a record of successful experience in management of engineering projects that has produced successful documented results
