Qualifications:

Current Licensure as a professional registered nurse in PennsylvaniaBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) requiredEvidence of one year's experience as a graduate nurseSchool Nurse Certificate, preferred. RN candidates will be considered if willing to pursue PDE certification24 credits beyond the Bachelor's degree is required for permanent certificationCurrent C. P. R. Certification

Job Responsibilities:

To maintain a comprehensive health record for each student, and to record and notify staff when a student has a special health problem.To evaluate immunization status of new school enterers, advise parents of needed immunizations and refer them to clinics or private physicians.To update immunization information at least every 60 days and notify parents of missing mandated immunizations.To exclude students whose immunization status is not in compliance with state mandates at school entry and after the provisional period. To readmit students when proof of immunizations have been obtained.To review immunizations for all students and notify parents every 60 days at least of missing immunizations that are required for school.To conduct mandated screening; vision/height/weight to all students, hearing test - grades Pre K, K, 1, 2, 3, 7, 11, and Special Education, Scoliosis - grades 6 and 7 and follow- up of defects discovered by the screenings, arrange for financial aid, when requested.To assist the physician with medical examinations of student in grades Pre K, K-6-11. Follow-up of defects discovered. Arrange for financial aid, when requested.To assist dentist and dental clerk with dental examinations of students in grades Pre K, K, 3 and 7. Follow-up of defects noted. Arrange for financial aid, when requested.To teach dental health program for students in grade one.To exclude and readmit students with infections and contagious diseases according to state regulations and school policy.To periodically screen all or certain students for ringworm, head lice, impetigo, etc. Schedule home visits or conference with parents of chronic offenders.To provide first aid for injuries and illness of students and staff in the school.To dispense medication to student with doctor's order and parental permission in accordance with established procedures.To perform treatments on students during school hours with doctor's orders and parental permission.To monitor therapeutic treatments and medications administered by students who are capable of self-administration.To participate in the formulation of overall goals and care plans for students with special health needs.To participate with school psychologists and counselors in planning 504 plans and ensuring appropriate care for students who require 504 accommodations.To serve as a member of the school Concussion Management Team in assessing and assisting students returning to school after a diagnosed concussion.To consult with the chief physician consultant regarding any health problem or question concerning a specific student or the school in general.To conduct health teaching as a resource person in cooperation with health teacher, homeroom teacher, physical education teacher or counselor (Example: growing up, AIDS, hand washing, etc.).To participate in Student Assistance Program (SAP) in schools where board approved programs are established.To participate in the Building Educational Support Team (BEST) in school where BEST teams are established.To coordinate and cooperate with the Student Pregnancy and Parenting Program.To plan with the school principal for any health program relating to students or faculty.To instruct students, parents and teachers regarding health exams and programs conducted in school.To use community resources for referral of students and their families with unmet health needs.To make visits to the homes of students when necessary for student health purposes.To maintain records of school nursing services and submit annual reports and other special reports to the head nurse.To promote wellness values in students.To teach students self-care when appropriate.To attend workshops, seminars and institutes relating to school health and attend faculty meeting, professional nurses' meetings and community meetings.To promote careers in the health field.
