Scientific Project and Alliance Manager

to join our program management team. In this role, you will support the execution of a portfolio of internal- and grant-funded projects,

working at the interface of multi-disciplinary teams of computational scientists, engineers, and experimentalists across the science units to deliver scientific impact. As a leader and collaborator, you will build consensus and drive momentum to successfully complete projects.

We are committed to increasing diversity across every team and encourage people from all backgrounds to apply for this role.Essential FunctionsAs a Project Manager:In partnership with the co-leads for scientific projects, serve as the Project Manager to help define and execute project goalsSupport cross-functional teams through planning and execution phases, using project management best practices and toolsMaintain clear and consistent channels of communication and documentation with internal and external stakeholders, leveraging software tools such as MS Teams, SharePoint, Smartsheets, etcOrganize project meetings with clear agendas, expected outcomes, and follow-up on action itemsKeep project milestones on track, anticipating and communicating at-risk deliverables. Work with team members to identify alternative options and implement mitigation strategiesLead project teams through business-relevant processes including budgeting (forecasting and monitoring) and progress reportingFacilitate and support preparations for internal and external program reviewsRepresent the project teams with internal finance, legal, and communications groupsAs an Alliance Manager:Interface with external collaborators to ensure successful execution of joint effortsMaintain clear and consistent channels of communication and documentation with collaborators and internal stakeholdersPartner with scientific staff to assist with the development of competitive external funding applications (Federal and Private)Ensure that Grants Management best practices are followedSupport post-award execution of externally funded efforts in audit-compliant fashion including contracts, sub-awardees, budget tracking/variance reporting, prior approval requests, carry forward requests, and agency reportingCoordinate with the Office of Sponsored Research regarding business processes and compliance with Federal or other agency guidelinesNote: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not proscribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.Required Education and ExperiencePh.D. degree in biology, neuroscience, immunology, cell science or related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum 1 year direct experience in a Project/Program Manager, Program Officer, or related role, beyond an academic laboratory/post-doctoral settingExperience in the use of project management, collaboration management, communication, and dashboard/reporting toolsPreferred Education and ExperienceFormal project management training and/or PMP certification is highly desiredA strong understanding of biology (particularly neuroscience, cell science, or immunology) and and/or computational analysis methods is a strong plusA team player and leader with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; able to navigate challenging group dynamics, work effectively across scientific, technical, and business interfacesComfortable with change, having demonstrated personal resilience, along with the ability to help others on the team navigate a dynamic work environmentUnderstands and applies Change Management best practicesExperience with federal funding applications and grants managementDemonstrated ability to work independently, proactively, and with agility in a complex, matrixed environment, dealing well with ambiguity, building internal alignment, influencing others, and managing differences effectivelySkilled in keeping sight of the bigger picture despite distraction, setting expectations and priorities accordinglyPhysical DemandsOccasional lifting to 30 poundsFine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipmentPush/pull up to 50 lbs (pushing a cart)Stooping, bending, crouchingPosition Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis role is currently able to work a

hybrid

work schedule with the flexibility to work up to three days remotely per week.
