SUMMARY OF POSITION

iDnA is seeking an experienced and tech-savvy Director of Architecture and Operations with a minimum of 15 or more years of design and multifamily experience to lead, manage, and coordinate Impact Housing’s design team from Concept Design through Construction Administration. A prerequisite of the position is licensure in the State of California.

The Director of Architecture is accountable for delivering iDnA work products on schedule, within established cost parameters, and in compliance with brand standards and standard operating procedures. They develop and manage the overall design execution plan with a focus on quality, predictable outcomes, and the coordination of design tasks to enable the achievement of company business objectives.

Working with Impact Housing’s leadership team and other divisions, the Director of Architecture will have a thorough knowledge of architectural design, production, and practice and be responsible for leading and managing iDnA’s operations to ensure adherence to design standards, schedules, productivity, and quality. The Director of Architecture and Operations will also serve as the company’s architect of record.

Day-to-day, the Director of Architecture and Operations coordinates and monitors iDnA personnel as they design, develop, document, and implement Impact Housing’s projects. They also represent Impact Housing’s design opportunities and issues internally and to the public. Familiar with a wide range of design tools (Revit and BIM 360 or equal), they are comfortable utilizing software applications (Excel, Smartsheet, or equal) typical to architectural practice.

As the responsible manager of iDnA, they help develop and ensure adherence to brand compliance objectives and oversee design quality and the unit’s adherence to schedules. Previous experience working with off-site construction, factory-built housing, and modular construction is desirable. Substantive experience managing design teams and personnel and seeing through to approval the design of Type III over Type I multifamily projects or equal is a prerequisite.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education

First professional degree or equal.

Experience

Minimum 15 years of directed career work including a substantive and documented focus on multifamily projects or equal.

Experience leading, managing, and coordinating design professionals and teams.

Knowledge of professional practice business administration including contracts and design business operation procedures.

Architectural License

California licensed; NCARB certification preferred.

Key Skills

Experience with multifamily architectural design through all design phases with an understanding and knowledge of the materials and detailing typically associated with Type I, Type III, and Type V multifamily residential and mixed-use construction.

Ability to coordinate personnel to achieve complete technically acceptable design and contract documents within established design frameworks, standard operating procedures, project scopes, schedules, and costs.

Competence as evidenced by the quality of work on previous projects and demonstrated knowledge of building code and project approval processes.

Experience managing architectural teams and consultants through all phases of design, permit approvals, and construction.

Experience with architectural management, contracts, administrative and finance operations, invoicing, scheduling, and monitoring of performance factors.

Self-organizer and self-manager of work, tasks, schedules, and people.

Clear communicator of concepts, task status, and milestones in both written and visual formats.

Preferred Skills

Computer literacy with Revit, AutoCAD or equal, Microsoft Word products, and management applications such as Smartsheet or equal.

Responsibilities

Leadership and oversight of iDnA’s design programs and projects.

Management, coordination, and scheduling of iDnA’s operations and personnel.

Supervision, team building, and mentoring of colleagues.

Work Authorization

All prospective Impact Housing and iDnA employees need to demonstrate eligibility to work in the U.S.

Compensation

Competitive salary range of $155,000 - $220,000 depending on experience.
