Job Summary:
The Underwriter is a junior-level underwriter who is fully trained with a minimum of two years of underwriting or related experience to approve cases up to a specific standard and substandard limits.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
· Underwrite individual life insurance applications, within guidelines set for the issuance of policies on a standard or substandard basis
· Determine whether to accept, modify or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual’s medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest, and other information pertinent to the decision
· Has contact with the field force to gather information on which to base decisions
· Consult with superiors or medical department concerning any questionable medical or personal situations
· Superiors review cases requiring higher ratings or amounts in excess of prescribed limits
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Analytical skills and computational aptitude
· Sound judgement
· Negotiation and interpersonal skills
Education and Experience:
· Minimum 2 years of underwriting or related experience
· Bachelor’s degree preferred
· Fluent in English and Spanish, a plus
· Complete LOMA’s Certificate in Underwriting
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Schedule and Salary Range:
· Full-time, in-office position
· Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.
· Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
· Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,800 annually
