Primary Role
Leads and conducts AW environmental, health and safety audits, interviews, document reviews, develops and administers surveys, and compiles environmental and operational data to assure operations and facilities continually meet compliance requirements and industry best practices. Responsible for leading assigned audits by evaluating and assessing the implementation American Water's (AW) risks/controls and Company policy on operational, safety, environmental compliance and water quality matters to assure: 1) the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, 2) the reliability of financial reporting, 3) compliance with laws and regulations, and 4) the safeguarding of company assets. Also responsible for assisting with select compliance activities related to the company's code of ethics. Provides technical expertise on environmental management systems, water quality, treatment and regulatory compliance issues.
Responsibilities
* Lead operational risk-based audits/projects and audit teams on a day- to-day basis ensuring team productivity, quality and timely results.* Includes coaching junior team members, coordination, planning, fieldwork, audit/project reports, and issue resolution.* Assess risks/controls from an integrated business control framework and collaborate with management to mitigate risks. Supports risk/ control awareness and self-assessment throughout AW.* Ensure communication and performance of responsibilities is organized, efficient, proactive, timely, cost effective and professional.
Knowledge/Skills
* Immediate to advanced knowledge of potable water and wastewater operations, water quality, environmental management systems/ procedures, environmental regulations, health and safety regulations, new technologies, and operational issues.* Knowledge of engineering/scientific concepts, theory, operational procedures, and analytical techniques.* Excellent written and oral communication skills.* Interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on initiative, knowledge sharing, team building and decision making.* Strong analytical, systemic and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and in teams or effectively work independently.* Knowledge of industry policies, procedures, regulations and laws.* Skill in collecting and analyzing complex data, evaluating information and systems and drawing logical conclusions.* Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Experience/Education
* Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, biology, environmental science required or equivalent.* Minimum of six (6) years operating experience in water/wastewater treatment.* Experience in implementation/audits of environmental management systems or equivalent preferred.* Working in a team-based environment is required.* Proficiency with ERP and fixed assets systems such as SAP and PowerPlan is a plus.
Certifications & Licenses
* Water and/or Wastewater Operator License preferred.
Work Environment
* Hybrid schedule in Camden, NJ office: 3 in the office, 2 days working remotely.
Travel Requirements
* Up to 5% travel throughout the United States.
