Lead Electrical Engineer - Substation Design
Functions as a technical specialist or in a lead substation design role encompassing distribution, sub-transmission and transmission level voltage classes. Under general direction, develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems. Will provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on substation design projects. May be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output. Will lead other engineers and interface directly with clients. Responsible for the overall execution and quality of substation projects as a leader within a team environment. Utilize Bluebeam to QA check and design high voltage substation drawings (such as schematics, wiring, one lines, three lines, plan views, section cuts, cond drawings, grounding drawings and material lists).
Key Responsibilities
May develop and maintain budgets and schedules for multiple substation design projectsPerform high voltage substation (34.5kV-500kV) design, including physical design, protective relaying/control with emphasis on continuous improvementAssists in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standardsProvides technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplinesIndependently applies knowledge and complies with quality program relative to assigned tasksResponsible for ensuring compliance with program while performing internal Quality Assurance technical reviewsSupport continuous improvement and change management effortsPrepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projectsPerforms complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selectionOversees collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering workPrepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principlesManages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirementsReviews lower level engineering work or assignmentsResponsible for one or more of the following: leading larger production teams; coordinating multiple discipline activity; and serving as the responsible charge for a projectActively coordinates with other internal/external team members on moderately complex projectsActively participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetingsInterface directly with clients, vendors and subcontractorsResponsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers on moderately complex projects and may determine the key clients in some instancesCommunicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on moderately complex projectsServes as a technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project te in a particular practice areaImplements resource management strategy
Qualifications required:
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineeringMust Have minimum 8 yrs' High Voltage Substation Design ExperienceQuality Assurance and Quality Control of high voltage substation design projectsResearch and recommendation development for equipment and/or materials selection.Preparation of one-lines, connection diagrams, panel elevations and protection & control schematics for po substation equipment.Preparation of auxiliary power equipment sizing calculations.Design wiring diagrams for protective relaying panels.Demonstrated experience with complex engineering calculations/studies related to substation projects such lightning protection, conduit fill, AC/DC station service loading, surge arrester sizing and voltage drop.Creating RTU control, status and analog point lists, raceway/cable schedules along with maintenance/signag and nameplatesPrepararation of equipment arrangement, elevation drawings, grounding drawings and conduit plans for hi voltage substations.Reviewing shop drawings, vendor quotes and perform bid evaluations.Developing construction release documents.Specific experience with 500KV - 13.8KV substations, varying voltage classesExperience with open air and/or GIS Experience with designing different types of bus configurationsAdvanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related t assigned engineering discipline
