Role Summary:

The Lead Engineer is responsible for directing the identification, design, and implementation of technical solutions, including software, hardware, and communications to support performance and integration between internal and external system components. This role requires deep expertise in the DHS Systems Engineering Lifecycle (SELC) or equivalent lifecycle processes and extensive experience in agile execution or DevSecOps. The Lead Engineer ensures that all technical solutions meet the required performance and integration standards, supporting large-scale IT and database systems.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership: Direct the identification, design, and implementation of technical solutions, ensuring proper performance and integration.

Lifecycle Management: Ensure alignment with the DHS Systems Engineering Lifecycle (SELC) or equivalent processes, incorporating agile and DevSecOps methodologies.

Solution Design: Lead the design of software, hardware, and communications solutions to meet performance and integration requirements.

Integration Management: Oversee the integration of commercial software products and custom code in programming languages such as GO, C++, JAVA, and PL/SQL.

Stakeholder Coordination: Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of technical solutions with organizational goals.

Documentation and Reporting: Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, integration plans, and performance reports.

Innovation and Optimization: Identify opportunities for system optimization and innovation, ensuring the implementation of best practices and cutting-edge technologies.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience: Over 10 years of relevant experience in cloud and on-premises design for large-scale IT and database systems, with a focus on multi-tier architecture and complex software integration.

Technical Proficiency: Extensive experience with GO, C++, JAVA, and PL/SQL programming languages.

Leadership: Proven track record in a leadership role, managing technical teams and projects.

Knowledge and Expertise: In-depth understanding of SELC or equivalent lifecycle processes and agile/DevSecOps methodologies.

Clearance: DHS Suitability, if required.

Preferred:

Advanced Technical Skills: Proficiency in additional programming languages and tools relevant to system design and integration.

Cloud and Infrastructure: Strong background in designing and implementing cloud-based and on-premises solutions, including network infrastructure.

Security Awareness: Understanding of security requirements and best practices, ensuring that all technical solutions comply with relevant security standards.

Project Management: Ability to manage and coordinate complex technical projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with project goals.

Advanced Degrees: A bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field, such as computer science or engineering.

Certifications: Relevant certifications in engineering, project management, or agile methodologies.

Strategic Development: Experience in developing and implementing strategic technical plans, including technology roadmaps and innovation strategies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, ensuring collaboration and integration across various technical domains.

Location:

This opportunity is remote with the expectation to attend meetings in the Metropolitan Washington, DC areas as required, but no less frequently than monthly.
