Primary Responsibilities
The Director of Nursing will verify the provision of quality care that promotes the highest practicable physical, mental and psychological well-being of each resident as determined by resident assessments and individual plans of care.
Essential FunctionsResponsible for interdisciplinary involvement in the development of plans of care to meet each resident's needsOversee/direct/coordinate nursing staff to provide proper resident care consistent with standard nursing practicesKeep current with the changes in all regulations related to resident careCommunicate with attending physician and medical director regarding resident care issues as neededAssure provision of appropriate medication, treatments and nursing services according to care plans and physician's instructionsAssure compliance with state/federal regulations and company standardsPerform direct care/procedures when needed; such may include procedures for which the staff is not qualified or licensed to performDevelop and verify implementation of POCsAttend QA meetingsReview any/all regulatory reports (2567, Quality Monitoring reports, Quality Indicators, etc.)Review resident clinical recordsReview facility reports (facility QA reports and Simple CFS reports, etc.)Review consultant reports and provide feedback on any POCCommunicate and coordinate with physicians, discharge planners or appropriate facility representatives from health care facilities regarding resident admissions, transfers and discharges as neededCommunicate and supervise nursing personnel with respect to professional conduct and counsel employees about job performance as neededProvide training to the pertinent facility staffUse diplomacy but firmness in settling any disputes, complaints, etc. concerning nursing personnel or residents or families in conjunction with the administratorQualifications
Educational/Training Requirements
Bachelor's degree preferredLicensing Requirements
Registered Nurse (RN) licensure requiredRUG certification preferredExperience Requirements
Experience as a DON in a skilled nursing facility
