The Senior Accountant plays a vital role in the organization’s financial stewardship. The Senior Accountant performs comprehensive accounting operations including general ledger maintenance, account analysis and reconciliation, preparation of financial reports, and other accounting duties as assigned. A solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and advanced Excel skills are required to complete monthly accounting and reporting duties. Must be highly organized and detail-oriented; and able to work with little to no supervision while performing under pressure.The Senior Accountant is responsible for compiling, analyzing, and recording financial transactions, in coordination with team members based on deadlines for the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process. Based on knowledge of contract deliverables, is able to communicate complex accounting information to non-accounting staff in a coherent manner including revenue and expense projections, budget to actuals, and other applicable information. The Senior Accountant must generate accurate reports to support the creation of monthly/quarterly invoices and substantiate journal entries, bank reconciliations, contract tracking workbooks, accruals, allocations, amortizations, and draw requests to funders. Participates in the budget process with Program Directors and monitors expenses against budgets for reimbursable expenses based on contract terms.Verifies financial transactions and determines action steps using sound analytical skills, critical thinking, and thorough knowledge of accounting procedures. Awareness and ability to interpret and comply with all federal, state, and local contact requirements. Able to breakdown complex payments and apply to invoices. Able to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual for accounting policy and procedures as well as develop and implement improvements to existing policy and procedures.
